This past Friday, UD celebrated Earth Day with help from the Climate Hub, Sustainability Council, DENIN, UD Dining, AATCC, and more. Students enjoyed UDairy from the MooMobile, got involved with local organizations, swapped clothes, made yummy lip scrubs, and listened to inspiring speakers on the North Green. These speakers included Chief Dennis Coker of the Lenape and student leader Kristie Arlotta, among others.
I was able to get a cute selfie with Kristie, shown below!
Students like Kristie have been calling on UD to create a Sustainability Office. And Friday morning, President Dennis Assanis sent out an email committing to creating one. In Kristie’s speech, she celebrates this win. She also encourages the student body to keep pushing for sustainability initiatives, saying, “we need to hold the university accountable in achieving these goals.” Overall, Earth Day was a success, and I look forward to celebrating more environmental wins in my time at UD.
