Dr. Matthew L. Cohen, Ph.D. Associate Professor

Dr. Cohen is a clinical neuropsychologist, which means that he is a clinical psychologist who specializes in the assessment of cognition, emotion, and behavior, particularly in the context of neurological conditions.

He earned a Ph.D. at the University of Florida and received advanced training in clinical neuropsychology from the Baltimore VA Medical Center and The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

In 2015, he returned to the University of Delaware (his alma mater) to complete a research fellowship in rehabilitation outcomes measurement with UD’s Center for Health Assessment Research and Translation (CHART), and he remains an active member of the center. In 2016, he joined the faculty of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. In 2022, he was a founding member of the Delaware Center for Cognitive Aging Research.

Dr. Cohen conducts research in two areas. First, the assessment of cognitive function in adults, particularly cognitive functions that support communication. Second, Dr. Cohen is interested in the assessment of health outcomes that are subjective and personal to the patient (like quality of life). Dr. Cohen specializes in the creation and modification of health questionnaires (also called patient-reported outcomes measures) to benefit adults with cognitive and language disorders
