Undergraduate Research Assistantships at the Center for Historic Architecture and Design

The Center for Historic Architecture and Design (CHAD) helps communities preserve their heritage in the face of rapid development and change. CHAD ensures that preservation and historic resources are part of planning and policy development at local, state, national, and international levels. CHAD excels at research and documentation of historic properties and traditional technologies; National Register nominations; and cultural resource surveys that contribute to creation of historic districts, heritage tourism, and similar efforts.
We are looking for smart, hard-working, and dependable undergraduate students to help us complete our project work for the 2019-2020 academic year as either an undergraduate student researcher or an undergraduate archivist assistant. Please read the job responsibilities below to see which position would best fit your goals and skill set. Both positions require a 10 hour per week time commitment, with flexible scheduling, good written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to complete repetitive tasks. All training will be provided.
Undergraduate Research Assistant
This position is great for students looking to gain experience within the policy and planning areas of historic preservation. In past years students have come from a variety of majors at UD including, history, anthropology, archaeology, art history, leadership, public policy, landscape architecture, and more. Projects range from processing survey forms to compiling background research for larger historic preservation documents. There is also a potential for fieldwork outside of the office, if your schedules permits.

Undergraduate Archivist Assistant
This grant-funded position is ideal for students interested in archives management, cultural resource management, library and information science, and museum studies. CHAD, funded by a Council on Library and Information Resources grant, has undertaken the task of fully digitizing our archival holdings which consist of photographs, negatives, and large format architectural drawings. We are seeking undergraduates interested in assisting with the digitization of these materials.
Responsibilities
• Assist with processing CHAD’s archival materials
• Properly handle and care for the collection
• Digitize and catalog the collection
• Provide descriptive data for each item
