  • Penn Predoctoral Fellowships for Excellence Through Diversity

The University of Pennsylvania invites applications for the first Predoctoral Fellowships for Excellence Through Diversity. This program is designed to provide mentorship and access to Penn’s resources for doctoral students in the humanities or social sciences, enrolled at universities other than Penn, as they complete their dissertations.

Dartmouth College invites applications for the Cesar Chavez/Charles A. Eastman/Thurgood Marshall Dissertation Fellowships from US citizens who plan careers in college or university teaching.  The goal of the Chavez/Eastman/Marshall fellowship program  is to promote student and faculty diversity at Dartmouth, and throughout higher education, by supporting completion of the doctorate by underrepresented minority scholars (including African-American, Latina/o, and Native American scholars) and other graduate scholars with a demonstrated commitment and ability to advance educational diversity.

New York University (NYU) is dedicated to ensuring a diverse, scholarly environment and encouraging individuals to enter the academic profession. To that end, NYU has created the NYU Postdoctoral and Transition Program for Academic Diversity Fellowship Program to attract and support promising scholars and educators from different backgrounds, races, ethnic groups, and other diverse groups whose life experience, research experience, and employment background will contribute significantly to academic excellence. Applicants with strengths in the sciences, health professions, law, and social sciences will be particularly welcome.

Five College Fellowships offer year-long residencies for doctoral students completing dissertations. The program supports scholars from under-represented groups and/or scholars with unique interests and histories whose engagement in the Academy will enrich scholarship and teaching.

Applicants must:

  1. be Ph.D. candidates in a humanities or social science department in the United States.
  2. have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. except the dissertation and obtained ABD (all but dissertation) status by the application deadline.
  3. be no more than six years in the degree program; awardees can hold this Fellowship no later than their seventh year.
  4. Unsuccessful applicants may reapply to this program only once.

DeKarman fellowships are open to students in any discipline, including international students, who are currently enrolled in a university or college located within the United States.  Only candidates for the PhD who will defend their dissertation by June and undergraduates entering their senior year (will receive bachelors degree in June) are eligible for consideration.  Postdoctoral and masters degree students are not eligible for consideration. Special consideration will be given to applicants in the Humanities.

International Fellowships are awarded for full-time study or research in the United States to women who are not United States citizens or permanent residents. Both graduate and postgraduate study at accredited institutions are supported. Several fellowships are available for study outside of the U.S.

Selected Professions Fellowships are awarded for the following programs: Architecture (M.Arch, M.S.Arch), Computer/Information Sciences (M.S.) , Engineering (M.E., M.S.), Mathematics/Statistics (M.S.)
Fellowships in the following degree programs are restricted to women of color, who have been underrepresented in these fields: Business Administration (M.B.A.) – applicants may apply for 2nd year of study only, Law (J.D.) – applicants may apply for 3rd year of study only, Medicine (M.D., D.O.) – applicants may apply for 3rd or 4th year of study only

American Fellowships support women doctoral candidates completing dissertations or scholars seeking funds for postdoctoral research leave from accredited institutions. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Candidates are evaluated on the basis of scholarly excellence, the quality and originality of project design, and active commitment to helping women and girls through service in their communities, professions, or fields of research.

  • The UNCF Merck Science Initiative Awards Scholarships and Fellowships
Awards offered at three levels:
UNCF/Merck Undergraduate Science Research Scholarship Awards are intended to help African American undergraduate students who are interested in science to further their science education and potentially pursue science and engineering careers. The UNCF Merck awards provide tuition support and opportunities for research experience in a state-of-the-art research facility.
UNCF /Merck Graduate Science Research Dissertation Fellowships will help African American graduate students complete coursework, conduct research, and prepare the dissertation required for a doctoral degree in the biomedically relevant life or physical sciences and engineering.
UNCF /Merck Postdoctoral Science Research Fellowships are intended to provide support to African American post-graduate students to obtain postdoctoral training and to prepare for a career in biomedical research.

The Payne Program is designed to attract outstanding young people to careers in international development as USAID Foreign Service Officers. The Payne Fellowship Program provides benefits valued at up to $90,000 over two years toward a two-year master’s degree, arranges internships in Washington D.C. and at USAID missions overseas, and provides professional development and support activities. Fellows who successfully complete the program become USAID Foreign Service Officers. Fellows may use the fellowship to attend a two-year master’s program in a U.S. institution to study an area of relevance to the USAID Foreign Service. The application deadline is January 27, 2014. The Program is funded by USAID and managed by Howard University.

The FASEB MARC Program provides funding for travel awards to support the participation of Faculty/Mentors and Students, and Poster/Platform Presenters at selected scientific meetings and conferences. The awards help to defray meeting registration and travel-related expenses for eligible underrepresented minority undergrad and grad students, post-baccalaureates, postdoctorates, junior faculty and mentors/faculty scientists in the biomedical and behavioral science. Biomedical and behavioral science categories include: biochemistry, bioengineering, biology, cell biology, chemistry, genetics, mathematics, microbiology, neurobiology, physics, physiology and some parts of psychology and sociology.
