News from 2023:

  • June 2023: Our Macromolecules paper on polysulfamides with Zijie Wu from our lab leading the coarse-grained model development and simulations and Alec Wu from Prof. Michaudel’s lab in Texas A&M leading the synthesis and characterization has been accepted!  Congratulations to all!
  • June 2023: Newly accepted in Soft Matter, recent work with coarse grained MD simulations from former lab member Phillip Taylor and in-depth structural analyses from Stephen Kronenberger showing how solvent quality affects network assembly of collagen-like peptide triple helices!   • May 2023: Finally online – our Science Advances paper that shares our collaborative work with Prof. Dhinojwala’s lab – combined CREASE-FDTD approach to link structure in binary nanoparticle mixtures with varying particle sizes and refractive indices to spectrum of colors.   • March 2023: Zijie Wu 5th year PhD student from our research lab was a finalist in the highly competitive 2023 APS March Meeting DPOLY Padden Award for graduate research excellence in polymer physics symposium. He presented his development & use of top-down & bottom-up, data-driven & physics-based computations to understand methylcellulose solution structure.

  • February 2023: Christian Heil successfully defends his PhD thesis! Congratulations Dr. Heil! We wish you the very best at Dow Chemical!
  • January 2023: Our newest paper with Christian Heil as lead author and experiments from our collaborator Prof. Bhuvnesh Bharti is accepted in JACS Au. This paper describes a new machine learning (ML)-accelerated computational method (‘P(q) and S(q) CREASE’) to analyze small-angle scattering profiles [I(q) vs q] from concentrated macromolecular solutions to simultaneously obtain the #formfactor P(q) (e.g., dimensions of a micelle) and the #structurefactor S(q) (e.g., spatial arrangement of the micelles) without relying on analytical models.

  • July 2022: Check out the educational ‘Summer of Science’ NRT outreach video created by Stephen Kronenberger (our lab) and Sean Farrington (Wagner Lab) on Youtube. Stephen and Sean discuss how one can use experiments, theory/simulations, and data science (themes of the NRT program directed by Arthi) synergistically to design soft materials (slime as an example in this video) with desired properties.

  • December 2020: Four papers accepted: one in Macromolecules (CREASE paper from Michiel), one in Soft Matter (collaborative experimentsimulation paper on collagen like peptides from Phillip and members of Kloxin group), one in J. Am. Chem. Soc. (perspective article including Utkarsh and Christian from our group and members of the MURI collaboration on melanin, and another in Macromolecules (collaborative experiment-simulation-theory study on polymer nanocomposites from Arjita and members of Russ Composto group at UPenn). Great way to end 2020!
  • September 2020: Arthi is elected as a fellow of the American Physical Society via the Division of Polymer Physics!
