London: Land of Possibility

Submitted by Sophia Moore on the 2016 summer session program in London, England sponsored by the Department of Art…

This week really opened my eyes to the types of possibilities we have access to in London. They call America the land of opportunity, but London is the land of possibility. It’s a huge city with relatively easy transportation and really engaging things to be a part of in every borough. This week we visited Shoreditch in East London where we found street art and vintage shops on every corner. We also visited Southwark where Katy Dowling and I found a rock climbing gym, and then later went to the opening of the New Tate Modern. The opening really tied into our studies as well because we met the designer who created all the promotional work for the opening on our first day here (Peter Saville Photograph), plus we were able to experience a real gallery opening at one of the most famous museums for Modern Art.
