Brian’s recent mechanistic study of the catalyst deactivation in catalytic dehydration of methyl lactate on NaY has been Accepted in ACS Catal. Pore filling with bulky organic molecules such as pyridinium acrylate in the zeolite is identified as the primary cause of catalyst deactivation with pyridine in the feed, while coking is the main deactivation mechanism with the pyridine-free feed.
