Themes of Xu Lab

The adsorption and reaction of molecules on the surface of (electro)catalysts are critical for efficient and selective chemical transformation in a variety of energy conversion and heterogeneous catalytic processes. 


Unravelling the interaction between adsorbates and surface, and establishing the mechanistic framework for complex reaction network through steady-state kinetic measurements, transient and perturbation methods, isotopic tracer techniques, and in-situ spectroscopies is one of the main focuses of our research.


Rational design, synthesis and characterization of materials based on the mechanistic insight is another pillar of our research.


The feedback loop between the rigorous mechanistic studies and rational materials design is the key feature of our research program.
