Delaware Open 2018

This past weekend, the team competed in the Delaware Open! It was in the mid-50s for the majority of the day with a strong headwind on the backstretch. This was our only home track meet of the season, and full results are available here. Between the men and women’s team, we racked up a total of 5 wins!

Notable performances came from senior Chris Kitson, who won the 1500 in 4:10.49, with his final lap being completed in 61 seconds! He also competed in the 800, where he crossed the line in 2:00.30 to finish 2nd. Later, the men’s 4×100–composed of Brandon Lichtenstein, Mike Mattamira, Nate Reynolds, and Jeff Storm–ran 45.96. This comes after the same team ran 46.34 at NIRCA Nationals. The sprint squad is looking to drop that time further during the next spring season.

Emily Hansell finished 2nd in the 1500, with a time of 5:25.28! She was followed by teammates Abby Kaye, Emily Magoon, Elise LaFramboise, and Haley Reid, who occupied 3rd place through 6th, respectively. The women’s team went on to take 1st place in both the 4×100 and 4×400. The 4×100 had Brittany Georges, Jenna Jackson, Emma Lesnevich, and Jess Bishop–they ran a time of 56.40. In the meet’s final event, Krista Charamella joined Lesnevich, Georges, and LaFramboise to win the 4×400 in 4:58.87.

Brandon Quanci and Brandon Holveck went 1-2 in the 3,000m, running 9:24.90 and 9:27.25, respectively. Brendan Jones ran 10:48.98 in the 3,000m steeplechase, to finish 2nd.

This was the end of the season for many team members, though in two weeks, some will be heading to the highly competitive Swarthmore Last Chance Meet, hosted by Swarthmore College. Kitson, Holveck, Quanci, Hansell, and others are planning to compete there. Great job to everyone who competed this weekend!
