2000s

As the scope of women’s studies, as a field, and feminism as a movement, expanded, the 2000s saw an explosion of energy focused on expanding definitions of gender and sexuality. More and more people began coming out publicly as members of the LGBTQ+ community, including Ellen Degenerous who came out in 2003 on her mainstream, cable program, “Ellen.” At the University of Delaware, the women’s studies program added a minor in sexuality studies.
