How it works

Walktober is back and better than ever!* In this 6-week online physical activity challenge you will be inspired and motivated to move more this Fall. As you accumulate steps/activity minutes, you will virtually travel the world and explore scenic autumn locations, browse through fall images, receive weekly wellness tips, and have access to a library filled with healthy recipes. Participants may sign-up as an individual, but are encouraged to join a team of 4 or 5 other Walktober users for an added challenge. 

Your activity can be tracked using your Fitbit or Jawbone device, Apple Health App, and more! You also have the ability to enter your steps manually if using a fitness tracker not supported by Walktober. As you are accumulating steps/minutes, you will acquire leaves, which will allow you to earn points for both yourself and your team. At the end of the program, prizes will be awarded to the top 3 individuals and the top 3 teams. A weekly prize raffle will also be provided throughout the program.

*Returning Walktober users will notice some exciting updates, including access to the Walking Wall on the mobile app, and the ability to track BOTH steps and minutes throughout the program, whereas previously, participants had to pick one option for the duration of the program.

  • The Walking Wall- an interactive message board to post your successes, photos, or read tips from the experts
  • Wellness tips (emailed daily or weekly based on your preference)

Program Eligibility 

This program is open to All-Access Members. If you are not a current All-Access Member, you may purchase a membership using your wellness dollars or out of pocket by completing the registration form or emailing wellbeing@udel.edu. 

PLEASE NOTE: Once you receive notification that your All-Access Membership has been processed, it will take up to 2 business days for you to be able to access the Walktober website. To ensure access to Walktober, you should register for an All-Access Membership no later than September 24th. 

Weekly Activities and Raffle Prizes

Each week, Employee Health & Wellbeing will be challenging participants to engage with one another and the community. You may be challenged to take a lap around the green, visit your local state park, or make a healthy recipe with your family. Details will be provided in the weekly emails from Employee Health & Wellbeing.  At the end of each week, all challenge participants will be entered into random drawing. The weekly raffle winner will be able to choose one (1) of a variety of UD themed prizes including: 

Walktober Competition  

Top 3 Teams – At the end of the program, the top 3 teams will be awarded. Points are based on the team’s average leaf points as reflected on the Walktober team leaderboard. Each member of the first place team will receive a prize!

Top 3 Individuals – At the end of the program, the top 3 individuals will be awarded based on total points earned as reflected by the Walktober individual leaderboard. The top finisher will receive a prize!

Golden Leafers – At the end of the program, all individuals who earned the maximum amount of golden leaves (42) will be recognized.
