Walktober returns bigger and better than ever!

How it works

Walktober is back! This online physical activity challenge will encourage you to get out there and MOVE! During this 6-week challenge, you will record your steps or your dedicated exercise minutes. As you accumulate steps/minutes, you will virtually travel the world to visit scenic fall locations. You will learn about each location, get to browse through beautiful fall images, receive regular wellness tips, and have access to a library of healthy recipes. If you are tracking your steps, you can sync your Fitbit or Jawbone device with Walktober. You also have the ability to enter your steps manually if using a fitness tracker not supported by Walktober.

As you are accumulating steps/minutes, you will acquire leaves, which will allow you to earn points for both yourself and your team. The leaves are as follows:

  • Red Leaf: 6,000-7,999 steps/30-44 minutes – Worth 3 points
  • Orange Leaf: 8,000-9,999 steps/45-60 minutes – Worth 4 points
  • Gold Leaf: 10,000+ steps/60+ minutes – Worth 5 points

You can choose to participate as an individual or on a team of 4-5 members. Whether going at it solo or as part of a team, you have the option whether or not your points are displayed on the leader board. Prizes will be given out to the top 3 individuals and the top 3 teams at the end of the program.

  • The Walking Wall- an interactive message board to post your successes, photos, or read tips from the experts

Registration Process

You must first register for the All-Access Membership. Once you register we will activate your Walktober account and you will receive an email from Employee Health and Wellness with instructions on how to create your Walktober account. If you register with UD on a Monday-Thursday, you will have access to the Walktober website by 3:00pm the following day. If you register with UD on a Friday-Sunday, you will have access to the Walktober site by 3:00pm on Monday.

We would love to have you join us on September 26th from 10am-1pm on the South Green in front of Memorial Hall. Here, you will be able to:

  • Meet the staff and learn more about the Wellbeing Program at UD
  • Learn more about the Walktober program
  • Participate in 30-minute classes offered at 11:00 and 12:00
  • Participate in various health screenings
  • Visit vendors for health and wellness resources
  • Enjoy light refreshments
  • Enter a raffle for 3 free All Access Memberships!

*You must be registered on the Walktober platform by September 29 in order for your activity to count toward the program



The Walktober program is part of the new All Access Membership. With this annual $75 membership, you can participate in both the fall and spring programs, the full year of fitness classes, plus all workshops and Lifestyle Improvement Programs.

We are not offering the option to purchase a Fitbit as part of the program this year, however, we will be raffling off the new Fitbit Charge each week of the program to those who continue to be actively engaged in Walktober.


Weekly Activities

Each week, Employee Health and Wellbeing will be challenging participants to engage with one another and the community. You may be challenged to take a lap around the green, visit your local state park, or make a healthy recipe with your family. Visit this section to view the weekly challenge, as well as all of the weekly challenge winners.




College Cup Competition –  Which college or administrative unit can log the most activity? The Alfred Lerner College of Business & Economics will be looking to repeat their title after their win last Walktober. To compete, be sure to note which college you are a part of during program registration. If you are not part of a college, please select the Non-College option. Your total activity points will count towards your designated college or administrative unit’s total points.

Top 3 Teams – At the end of the program, the top 3 teams will be awarded. Points are based on the team’s average leaf points as reflected on the Walktober team leaderboard. Each member of the first place team will receive a prize!

Top 3 Individuals – At the end of the program, the top 3 individuals will be awarded based on total points earned as reflected by the Walktober individual leaderboard. The top finisher will receive a prize!

Golden Leafers – At the end of the program, all individuals who earned the maximum amount of golden leaves (42) will be recognized.
