Pasture Insect Scouting

David Owens, Extension Entomologist; owensd@udel.edu

Scout pasture grass and crowns for signs of webworm, billbug, and armyworms. Webworm and billbug will leave dark lesions where small larvae drill into the tillers. Fall armyworm will strip leaf tissue from the midrib. Search the thatch layer for them, you can also perform a soapy water float. Pyrethroids, diamides, and carbaryl are all options for these pests.
