Examining Fast Fashion in Introduction to Sociology
One way to teach sociology is to highlight our inter-connectedness through globalization. Specifically, students in my class and I study “dependency theory” and how it is a useful lens on the fast fashion industry, as well as the impact of the used clothing that it generates. Check out this recent story about UD undergraduate research in the area, as well as this article from the Washington Post.
WDDE Covers Local Research
Here’s a recent news story by Sophia Schmidt of WDDE that covers my research in two local New Castle County communities. Many thanks to the community members and others that were involved in the process to help make it happen.

Exciting Times for SOCI 335!
There are many exciting activities for the students in SOCI 335 – Environment and Health this semester! In addition to contributing to the Wilmington Archives Project by using digital storytelling to document the environmental experiences of local Wilmington community members, students will also get to see the public lecture by Kenneth Gould and Tammy Lewis on their book “Green Gentrification” on November 8th. The book is a part of their course curriculum and examines complex topics such as urban sustainability and gentrification through environmental mitigation. Stay tuned for more information as the talk approaches!
