The VCAT Story
In 2013, while Dr. Susan Sheehy, a US Army Nurse Corp Veteran, was teaching at Uniformed Services University on the base at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, she became acutely aware of the need to develop a program that could be offered nationwide to any post 9-11 Veteran to help reintegrate, reconnect, and stay or become healthy again after returning from deployment.
A pilot program was held at Boston College in 2016 and was a huge success. The veterans and athletes impacted each other’s lives in major ways and remain friends. The veterans lost an average of 15lbs during the 12 week program.
The program has found a new home at the University of Delaware in Newark. We welcome any post 9-11 veteran active duty, guardsman, or reservist, who has been challenged to get or stay healthy.
