Peace and Justice Studies is a new minor rooted in the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal 16, which according to www.un.org: “aims to promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.” The minor promotes the skills of peacemaking and peacebuilding, which not only feel good but are at the foundation of many careers. Students in the minor take a core course in the theory and practice of peace. From there, students select courses in meditation and mindfulness, communication and leadership, historical movements, economics, and public policy making, and understanding diverse cultures and philosophies of ethics. The final course in Peacemaking and Peacebuilding synthesizes what has been learned and turns it into action. This is an interdisciplinary minor with many departments involved, including Geography, Anthropology, Economics, History, Music, Philosophy, Political Science, and many more!
