UD Esports Teams Start Playoffs

Two University of Delaware esports teams are advancing to the national championships.

Boasting a stunning 15-1 season, and emerging as the Eastern Champions in the Electronic Gaming Federation (EGF) Conference Playoffs, UD’s Rocket League team will enter the EGF League Championships as the top seed.

UD Esports Still Competing

While the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has hindered many traditional athletics programs, esports at the University of Delaware is still active and thriving, giving team members an outlet for competition and camaraderie. Esports Programs Power Up Campus and Community Rec

According to a recent Morning Consult poll, Generation Z is less interested in sports than the general public — with one notable exception: esports. The poll found that among Gen Zers who identified as sports fans, 35 percent of them said they were esports fans, a mark among the cohort that outpaced such traditional sports offerings as college basketball (33 percent), Major League Baseball (32 percent), NASCAR (26 percent) and the National Hockey League (25 percent)…

Welcoming jazz and improvisation and game studies and esports majors to the university

As the 2021 fall semester begins, the university is welcoming six new majors including game studies and esports and jazz and improvisation. These majors have just been finalized but both have been in the works for years. 


The University of Delaware men’s and women’s basketball teams aren’t the only ones in the postseason this year; Delaware Esports is getting in on the game, too.

UD’s League of Legends team will participate in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Esports Playoffs on Saturday, March 19.
