STUDENT RESIDENTIAL STAY: JULY 7, 2024-JULY 19, 2024 M-F (STUDENTS GO HOME FRIDAY AND RETURN AFTER 6PM SUNDAY)

COLLEGE TOUR: JULY 22, 2024-JULY 26, 2024

What are Resident Tutor Counselors?

Summer Resident Tutor Counselors are responsible for monitoring students in the program during daytime hourse and residence hall during the daytime and night hours. Summer Counselors also serve as positive role models for students by always displaying appropriate conduct, maintaining an encouraging and supportive attitude, and displaying passion and commitment for their work without exception

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of either Math (up to Calculus), Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Foreign Language (Spanish and/or French), and Literature/Composition

  • Prefer college sophomore, junior, senior, or college graduate and/or prior resident advisor experience

(Have 45 or more post -secondary education credits and established proficiency in all areas of Math, English, Sciences and or in Computer Science, Information Systems or Information Technology)

GPA of 3.0 or better in subject you desire to assist/tutor
At least two years of post-secondary education complete
Knowledgeable of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Strong organizational skills

Assist Instructors to set lesson goals and milestones
Must be reliable
Positive attitude
Patient, caring, and creative

Flexible, adaptive, and a team player

Summer Duties

Provide instruction/tutoring in a classroom and/or lab setting to students enrolled in Computer Science and related courses, as well as lower and upper level Math courses

Attend supervision meetings & trainings (MANDATORY)
Monitor student performance or assist students in academic environments in classrooms, or computer labs
Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and assist students in understanding the concepts
Utilize materials pertaining to subject matter
Able to take on many tasks at once and prioritize them by importance and relevance
Creative and able to foster a fun learning environment
Efficient time management
Collaborate with instructors to evaluate student needs
Assist instructor by gathering materials or setting up equipment

Skills that Assist the Educator and the Team

Create lessons to reiterate what student learned in class

Plan creative learning activities
Adjust lessons to advance skills beyond classroom level
Provide encouragement and positive motivation
Pay extra attention to problems and subjects student struggles with
Review students’ homework
Assist student in completing class assignments
Document progress to discuss with instructors and administrative staff
Ability to serve as a positive role model and mentor

SUMMER 2024

EDUCATOR APPLICATION

Summer Six-Week Components (JUNE 20, 2024-JULY 19, 2024), Upward Bound Instructors are responsible for planning and implementing dynamic, engaging, empowering Summer Component (5-weeks) courses. The coursework and classroom environment should encourage and reward reflection, revision, and improvement in the academic courses being taught during the academic year. Courses must incorporate culturally responsive pedagogy, project-based learning, student-centered learning, community action projects, and multicultural perspectives. Supplies are provided.

Paid Days Off: June 17th, June18th, June 19th, July 3rd, July 4th

Qualifications

We welcome applications from teachers who have experience in and a commitment to teaching. Some training and guidance will be provided. No teaching certification is needed but a minimum of two years of teaching experience is required.
