Projects & Profiles

This is where you will find information about our islands in Second Life, profiles of our faculty and their projects and slide tours of our islands.

A small bit of history

The University of Delaware entered Second Life in late 2007. IT faculty support staff immediately set about developing their skills leaning about  instructional possibilities, building, scripting, and estate management. Early adopter faculty joined and launched our first in-world classes, including distance courses in Biology and Education. After a few months of skills building we decided to have our island developed by the folks at the New Media Consortium.

The University of Delaware opened our islands to the public in early 2008. This milestone was marked with an open invitation to the Second Life community for our first live simulcast of UD’s Global Agenda Series. Global Agenda has proven to be a very popular series with a dedicated world-wide following. In addition to the long-running Global Agenda, we have added the National Agenda speaker series along with many live simulcasts of UD notable guest speakers, Library workshops, UD faculty talks, UD hosted events, and the revolving exhibits of UD’s art collections in our Second Life gallery.  We have gained a reputation for excellence in outreach to a broader worldwide audience.
