Upward Bound Math and Science

Do you dream of getting a degree in the sciences? Have you ever wondered how engineers design bridges or cars or what goes into developing a new app?

If so, Upward Bound Math and Science is for you. Our goal is to assist students interested in science, technology, engineering and math, and we do this by recognizing a student’s gifts and enhancing their intellectual talents.

The Upward Bound Math and Science program encourages and assists students in obtaining college degrees and ultimately careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

UPWARD BOUND MATH AND SCIENCE SCHOLARS SUMMER EXPLORATION

The goals for the Upward Bound Math and Science (UBMS) summer program is to grow our students’ passion for math and science, increase their academic skills, their desire to succeed in school, and to introduce them to our close-knit community of student-scholars.

Over the summer, students have daily classes in English, math, science and foreign language. Class sizes are small and taught by experienced teachers and professors who are assisted by tutors. Tutors work with students that may need extra help during study sessions. Students will also engage in hands-on experiences with the engineering and biological sciences departments at the University of Delaware.

UPWARD BOUND MATH AND SCIENCE ACADEMIC YEAR

During the academic year, we provide workshops and a speaker series that cover topics such as:

  • Advice on applying to college
  • Better study skills
  • How to be a leader
  • How to start a business
  • Scholarship advice
  • How families can afford a college education

Throughout the fall and spring semesters, we help students think about their career so that they can make informed choices about where to attend college. To help students think about college, we hold workshops each month and arrange college visits every semester.

Students also have access to individual counseling sessions to identify their interests, talk about their college choices and assist with financial planning for college.

Other services we offer students and families:

  • SAT prep
  • Earn-and-learn stipends
  • Parent workshops
  • Financial aid workshops
  • Robotics workshops
  • Civic engagement activities
  • Participation in local and national conferences and scholarly presentations

The UBMS Scholars program is designed to make each student learning experience successful and help them become global contributors to the world.
