Seminar: “Storytelling & Its Impact on Careers in Environmental Sciences” – Dr. Jim Cudahy

Synopsis: We’ll take a look at the power of storytelling generally and then examine it as a tool for attracting students and professionals to careers in soil science, crop science, and agronomy. Members of the associated professional societies have identified workforce development – attracting and retaining the next generation of scientists and technicians – as the single largest challenge facing our disciplines. Come prepared to talk about your journey to science and about what the Tri-Societies can do to attract more people like you to careers in our sciences.

Bio: Jim Cudahy is the new chief executive officer of the Soil Science Society of America, the Crop Science Society of America, and the American Society of Agronomy, collectively known as “ACSESS.” Rather than having a science background, Jim arrived to the Tri-Societies from a career in non-profit management, having worked in similar roles for the National Investor Relations Institute and the National Court Reporters Association. Jim climbed the ranks of non-profit management through marketing and communications and is in the process of modernizing the Tri-Societies’ branding, which he sees as central to attracting the next generation to careers in our sciences.
