About the Gene Editing Institute
The Gene Editing Institute (https://research.christianacare.org/geneeditinginstitute/) is located at University of Delaware’s STAR Campus. The Gene Editing Institute focuses on Translational Research & Technology Development and researches the use of CRISPR/CAS gene editing in cancer with a central focus on elucidating the transformation pathways as well as developing innovative technological approaches for studying oncogenesis.

About the position
An Undergraduate Student Research Assistant is needed to work in Animal research to support our pre-clinical data.

The duties include handling and breeding mice as well other tasks associated with the project. Additional tasks could include weighing and measuring the animals, therapeutic dosing and treatment, assistance in surgeries, and tissue dissections.

As the study progresses, there may also be an opportunity for molecular biology benchwork and cell culture as part of the project’s overall workflow.

Work hours and lengths are flexible, but the assistant is expected to work approximately 10 – 15 hrs per week depending on the research needs each week. Importantly, the assistant is anticipated to work through the summer and winter sessions. The assistant will be trained and supervised directly by the senior personnel in the lab. Candidates should have reliable transportation to both the STAR campus and main campus at University of Delaware.

About the qualification
Sophomores and juniors majoring or minoring in Biology, Medical and Molecular Sciences, Chemistry, Animal Science, or related fields, who are maintaining good grades, and have taken introductory laboratory courses, are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate is expected to have good organization and communication skills, show positive attitudes, and work well independently as well as with others.
