Legere is a blues and folk singer-songwriter with many talents ranging from playing the accordion to conducting symphony orchestras. Throughout this interview we hear all the many stories behind Legere’s music and more.

About The Singer-Songwriter

Phoebe Legere had her first debut at 16 in Carnegie Hall and had her song “Amazing Love” featured in the Top 40 of Adult Contemporary in 1997. Not only is Legere a talented singer-songwriter, but she also has stared in a her fair share of independent films including, “Mondo New York,” “Toxic Avenger 2,” and “Toxic Avenger 3.” As if preforming at Carnegie Hall wasn’t enough, Legere also had the honor of opening up for David Bowie during his national tour in 1991, and was later nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in music.

Homestead Collective is the first of many groups to perform live for WVUD this semester, showcasing two songs from their self titled EP and a separate single. We discuss with the duo the in-home editing processes they use, their songwriting and inspirations.

About the Duo

Caitlyn Deviney and Ben Morris have known each other for years, being involved in youth group together and attending the same community college, but it was not until recently that they decided to combine their musical talents into the duo, Homestead Collective. Ben plays banjo and guitar  while Caitlyn does vocals and also plays the guitar. They pride themselves on holding monthly Homestead Gatherings that allow artists to share their music and a variety of other artwork with each other to provide an atmosphere of creativity and friendship.

Singin’ with Heather Pierson

Heather Pierson Singin' Cover Heather Pierson joined WVUD’s The Music Room to talk about her musical history and her trio’s newest album  Singin’.

Her trio offers a variety of sounds such as blues, folk and jazz, while incorporating each member’s talents playing an array of instruments. Pierson raved about the importance of the love of music in her life and the influence it has on her songwriting and performing.

About the Band

Debuting in 2015 with their EP Still She Will Fly, The Heather Pierson Trio consists of Heather Pierson, Shawn Nadeau, and Davy Sturtevant. Shawn plays upright bass while Davy specializes in guitar, fiddle, dobro, mandolin and more. Their newest album, Singin’, displays the trio’s diverse abilities to play a variety of instruments and styles of music. They are touring the country offering intimate concerts at a multitude of venues.
