Scholarly Community Engagement

Purpose of the Award
This excellence award serves the following major purposes:
1. To highlight the University’s commitment to engaged scholarship in teaching,
engaged research/creative activities, and/or engaged service
2. To reward faculty excellence in mutually beneficial, scholarly engaged teaching,
research/creative activities and/or service
3. To thereby promote excellence in community engagement among all TT and CT
faculty.
Nature and Number of Awards
One award will be bestowed in each year for excellence in engaged teaching, engaged
research/creativities and/or engaged service by faculty. The committee generally will not
designate awards unless there are enough truly excellent candidates to justify such action that year.
Each award recipient receives $5,000 to be shared with an identified community partner. The winning partnership also represents UD in the competition for the regional W. K. Kellogg Foundation Community Engagement Scholarship Awards and the national C. Peter Magrath Community Engagement Scholarship Award. These are among the most prestigious recognitions of exemplary engaged scholarship in the United States, and also provide cash prizes, including $20,000 for the top national award.
A brick inscribed with the recipient’s name will be placed in Mentor’s Circle. Recipients will present brief lectures describing their work and its impact during an annual symposium. Funds for the awards will be provided by the Office of the Provost and the Community Engagement Initiative
