Meet the Sustainability Council Subcommittees

Sustainability Council Subcommittees

The Sustainability Council, as of Spring 2022, has three Subcommittees: (1) Climate Action Plan Subcommittee; (2) Transportation Subcommittee; and (3) Green Grants and Green Hen Awards. Below, you will find more information about each of these. In future, we intend to create more Subcommittees to reflect the growing array of topics that intersect with sustainability and environmental justice.

Climate Action Plan Subcommittee

The Climate Action Plan Subcommittee was created at the start of March 2022 and its membership list – which includes faculty, staff, an alumni representative, and graduate and undergraduate students – can be found here. The names, representing bodies, titles, subcommittee roles, subcommittee term start dates, emails, and Council membership are listed too.

The Subcommittee meets every two weeks for one hour.

The aim of the Climate Action Plan Subcommittee is to provide an updated Climate Action Plan by the end of 2022 or 2023 with actionable recommendations for the University of Delaware to adopt to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, enhance its sustainable record, and generate cost savings. The University of Delaware last published its Climate Action Plan in 2009, which can be found here.

Transportation Subcommittee

The Transportation Subcommittee was established at the start of March 2022. The Subcommittee’s membership list – which includes faculty, staff, an alumni representative, and graduate and undergraduate students – can be found here. The names, representing bodies, titles, subcommittee roles, subcommittee term start dates, emails, and Council membership are listed too.

The Subcommittee meets every two weeks for one hour.

The aim of the Transportation Subcommittee is to provide a Transportation Masterplan by the end of 2022 or 2023 with actionable recommendations for the University of Delaware to adopt to be more sustainable, safe, and equitable transport options.

Green Grants and Green Hen Awards Subcommittee

The Green Grants and Green Hen Awards Subcommittee was established at the end of March 2022. The Subcommittee’s membership list – which includes faculty, staff, and graduate and undergraduate students – can be found here. The names, representing bodies, titles, subcommittee roles, subcommittee term start dates, emails, and Council membership are listed too.

The Subcommittee meets on an ad hoc basis but only during the consideration period, which is typically March, April, and May.

The aim of the Green Grants and Green Hen Awards Subcommittee is to consider annual applications for Green Grants and nominations for the Green Hen Awards. They also consider how to improve these processes in terms of communications, engagement, outreach, nomination and application processes, and selection processes.
