FACULTY COURSE DEVELOPMENT

In 2023, the Office of Sustainability (OS) and the Center for Teaching and Assessment of Learning (CTAL) were happy to partner to advance “Sustainability Connections” and “Sustainability Investigations” courses. We awarded 5 faculty fellowships to explore integrating sustainability into their courses. This 3½ Course Development Institute provided a personalized course design experience where faculty were supported by CTAL (along with their colleagues) to create a new course or revise an existing one. Specifically the fellows, 1) built new or revised student learning outcomes (SLOs) that focus on sustainability, 2) built a major final assignment/exam that emerges from those SLOs, 3) created a plan for including learning activities that prepared students for the major assignment or exam, and 4) created an inclusive syllabus based on the UD Syllabus tool.

The 2023-24 Sustainability Fellows were:

  • Nancy Boyer – GEOG447, Peacemaking and Peacebuilding (Sustainability Investigations Course)
  • Anna Wik
  • Michelle DePhillips – NURS418, Public and Global Health (Sustainability Connections Course)
  • Mercy Achang
  • Carolyn White Bartoo
