Club News: December 2023

Seaford Blue Jays – Jayda Genshaw, Reporter
President Janet, opened the Seaford Blue Jays meeting at the American Legion on November 8, 2023. Caydance and Embrey lead us in the “Tarzan” song.   We discussed how much fun the pumpkin contest was and that Jayda Genshaw had won first place in her category for her three turkey pumpkins. Our leader encouraged all members that can meet to pass out flags to veterans this Saturday, November 11th. We were reminded of the upcoming events Holiday Cards for Heroes and International Foods. We drew names for Secret Santa and decided our Christmas party will be held at the next meeting, December 13th. Everyone will bring a snack and have a gift exchange. Our club will also be participating in the Seaford Christmas Parade. We ended the meeting with a snack from the Genshaw family and beaded corn craft. Have a corntastic Thanksgiving!!!!!

As usual, our meeting began with our fun selection of songs. We then had our business meeting, and one of the big reminders was to make sure you enroll at 4honline.com right away if you have not already done that for the year. After the business portion of our meeting, we spent some time with our project books. 4-H project books are a really fun way to learn about a variety of topics, so be sure to check out all of the neat areas you can explore! We also filled out our new diamond clover forms, and the Cloverbuds made awesome puppets on sticks!

With it finally feeling like fall in Sussex County, our November club meeting highlighted the tastes of the season with a delicious snack!  It’s hard to believe our December meeting will be here soon!

Cypress Heart and Hands
The members of Cypress Heart and Hands would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and can’t wait for the winter holiday season! We had our Bowling Fundraiser on November 5th. Everyone got to bowl two games and raise money for our club to put towards community service projects, club supplies, and outreach events. Everyone had a lot of fun! At our club meeting, two of our members provided a fall trail mix for snack and gave everyone a turkey pinecone craft to construct. The turkey will be a perfect addition to everyone’s table this Thanksgiving. This month, our members will be working on our float for the upcoming Christmas parades. We are also going to be shopping for Adopt-a Family and plan on wrapping everything during the month of December. We participated in Blessings for Badges and made decorated pages that will go on Thanksgiving meals for first responders. This made everyone think about how thankful we are for those who must work on the holiday serving the community instead of being home with their families.

Wild Clovers
The Wild Clovers enjoyed a fun fall meeting this month. We had a special guest, Emily Palmer, attend our meeting and speak to us about the importance of wetlands, the creatures that rely on these environments and the program that the NRCS promotes. The Wetland Reserve Easement (WRE) program helps restore wetland habitats for wildlife and native plants. Emily quizzed our knowledge and gave out bags and tattoos for correct answers. After this, the members got to construct their own cup turkeys for thanksgiving and enjoyed making their very own ants on a log snack with either peanut butter or cheese. We plan on having a spirited December meeting and encourage everyone to check us out this holiday season!

Bridgeville Mustangs – Reid Bradley, Reporter
On November 9th the Bridgeville Mustangs held their meeting at Union Church. Many topics were discussed during the meeting. Some recently attended events were Apple Scrapple, Apple Scrapple Clean up, Officer Training Workshop, Links to Leadership Event,  Pumpkin Contest, Haunted Trail, and thenFall Retreat Overnighter. New events for the club that we will attend include Holiday Cards for Heroes, International Foods and the Talent Show, Hippology Contest, and National 4-H Conference. At Redden Lodge, lots of Mustangs entered the Pumpkin Contest in which many got blue ribbons and won their category. During the Pumpkin Contest, the Jr. leaders for Sussex County hosted a Haunted House where many members were actors.  Many others attended the event.   President Carter Bradley and  Past-President Kyle Kerr will be attending the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Georgia which they are looking forward to.

After the meeting members enjoyed a tasty snack and made Holiday Cards for Heroes for soldiers that couldn’t make it home for the Holidays. Our next meeting will be on December 7th, 2023, at the Bridgeville Library.

Sussex 4-H Jr. Council – Lillie Bradley, Reporter
On Monday, November 6th, the Sussex County Jr. Council met for their third meeting into the new 4-H year. Members attended the meeting and discussed their experiences on activities throughout the meeting. During the meeting, we discussed Cole Carpenter’s community service project to donate blankets and gloves to the homeless and collectively agreed that each member should bring in $13 or a donation to the following meeting to help towards the project. After the meeting, members enjoyed snacks and discussed who was going to bring food items to the next meeting for our Christmas celebration.
