Club Spotlight: Clover Knights 4-H Club (Sussex County)

The Clover Knights 4-H Club is based in Georgetown and currently has 27 active club members.  Our club meets the 2nd Wednesday of every month at Providence Community Church at 6:30pm.  Our meetings consist of a short business meeting led by junior club officers, followed by an activity or presentation on the topic of discussion for that month.  Some of our past topics have included: basic photography, team building, animal care, community service, public speaking, wood working, hiking, pumpkin carving safety, first aid, helping others, leadership, financial literacy, record books, demonstrations, exploring 4-H, and making lots and lots of arts/crafts.

Our members have learned many things through their experiences with 4-H, but the one thing we pride ourselves on most is the community service projects we complete each year.  It is apparent that community service and volunteering is very important (and very rewarding) to our club members, which is why we have made it our club’s goal to complete at least one community service project each month.  And this year we chose a theme for our service projects, titled “Holidays of Hope”.  So, each month our members will focus on bringing “hope” to others in and around our community.  Some of the projects we have planned for the year are:  Halloween goodie bags for nurses/staff at Beebe Tunnell Cancer Center/Beebe South Coastal Cancer Center, as well as 3 domestic violence shelters, a homeless shelter, and group home for teen foster girls;  granting Christmas wishes to the residents of Harrison House Senior Living;  Hearts for Heroes to residents at Veterans Home in Milford;  making/sending cards of encouragement to kids; and making Easter Baskets for foster children in the Delaware Foster Program.  We also participate in Adopt-A-Highway, Coastal Clean-Up, Operation Christmas Child, Rock Your Socks, as well as other service projects as help is needed.
