Community Service Opportunities with the Salvation Army

Dear Friends at Delaware 4-H

We hope you’ve had a blessed year!  This past Kettle Season 2018 was a success!  We met one of our goals for the year with which we have been able to help our community in various programs. It is hard to believe that the Christmas Season 2019 is soon upon us and it is time to put a schedule together for the red kettles throughout our communities to collect funds to help provide food for families, toys for children, and offer relief for countless of our neighbors in need.  In Sussex County, these services include providing emergency sheltering; crises-funding to help pay for ever increasing and unexpected energy bills; a food pantry that operates five days per week, a soup kitchen serving hot, home cooked meals four days per week,  a mobile food truck operating throughout the county serving hot, home cooked meals two days per week to those in need.

We also have a Senior Adult Program operating one day per week and Children’s Programs currently operating two evenings per week  with three evenings per week starting in January 2020.  We are expecting to assist even more individuals in this coming year as the needs of our community continue to grow.

The Seaford Salvation Army services over 500 Children during the Christmas season.  Parents and guardians from low income households come through doors every year in need of assistance in providing a good Christmas for their children.  The Salvation Army provides these families with toys, stockings, and food so that they do not go without during the holiday season.

There are several ways in which our community can help us give back:

Angel Tree Program
The Angel Tree program is a chance for the community to give back by placing a tree (or other Christmas decoration) at their location with Angel tags on them. Each tag has The Salvation Army’s information, wish list items, and clothing sizes for a child in need. The donations of the community go straight to the families in need. We are only able to do what we do through the support of the local community.

Red Kettle Campaign
Locations can choose to allow Bell Ringers with the Red Kettle stands to be placed at their locations to collect monetary donations to go towards helping those in need throughout the year.  All monies collected in Sussex County stay within the county.

The Red Kettle Campaign is in need of Volunteer Bell Ringers at various locations throughout Sussex County.  Kettle Season begins for us on Friday, November 29th and ends December 24th.  We ring every day except Thanksgiving and Sundays.   Volunteer ringers stand at the kettles between 10 AM and 8 PM

We would like to ask for your Club’s support in helping those in need throughout Sussex County by donating a day or a few hours of your time to help with our Red Kettle Campaign.  We have locations in Bridgeville, Seaford, Laurel, Delmar, Rehoboth, Long Neck, Millsboro, Ocean View, Bethany Beach, Millville, Selbyville, Fenwick Island, Georgetown, Milton and Milford.

Thank you again for consideration of this request that will ultimately help us to bring joy to the faces of our neighbors in need in Sussex County.  We hope you will continue to help us “Do the Most Good”.  We are looking forward to speaking with you soon!  If you would like to schedule a time to ring the bell or if you have any questions please feel free to reach me at 302-628-2020 Ext # 105.

Blessings!
