Shout Out for 4-H Compact Tractor Training

The first of multiple training/practice opportunities in preparation for the 2013 Delaware State Fair 4-H Sub-Compact Tractor (Mower) Driving Contest was attended by 10 Sussex 4-H members and organized by Extension safety agent and 4-H leader Mike Love. Held at the Carvel Research and Education Center on the evening of April 15, the potential contestants at both the Junior and Senior levels were introduced to the contest format, rules and safety requirements.  With safe operation being the focus, these potential lawn care experts navigated a driving course with twists, turns and ugh–backing!  The evening was chilly and only one could ride the course at a time so patience was part of the lesson.  Still, everyone had fun and learned some more about the safe operation of a riding tractor-type lawn mower.  Additional opportunities will be held prior to the fair with the dates and locations to be announced soon.

Attendees included Holly Anderson, Patrick Emmett, Sarah Krajewski, and Luke Crachow from Hollymount; Zane Adams and Kinley Elliott from State Line; Jackie Arpie from Cypress Hearts and Hands; James and Matthew Ridley from the Livestock Club; Ryan Cummings from the Bridgeville Mustangs; and Travis Waller of the Clover Knights.  A GREAT BIG SHOUT-OUT
