Mark your calendar for this year’s Coastal Cleanup September 14, 2019
You can help make a difference in Delaware by joining volunteers of all ages at the annual Delaware Coastal Cleanup, which will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, September 14, 2019. In case of severe weather, the rain date will be the following Saturday, September 21.

Sponsored by the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, the cleanup spans the First State’s 97-mile eastern coastline and includes river and ocean shorelines as well as wetland and watershed areas. This year, more than 45 sites in New Castle, Kent, and Sussex counties are targeted. Volunteers are strongly encouraged to pre-register to help ensure that each site has enough supplies.

For more information about your preferred site in the 2018 Coastal Cleanup, please contact the zone captain in your area:

  • State Parks Statewide Zone Captain – Alison Romano, 302.900.1423
  • State Wildlife Areas Zone Captain – Lynne Pusey, 302.422.1329
  • Sussex Beach Sites Zone Captain – Jennifer Pongratz, 302.739.9921
  • Kent County Bay Beach Sites Zone Captain – Colleen Holstein, 302.739.6377

New for 2019: An App For That
Would you prefer to report your Coastal Cleanup finds on your smartphone instead of using a paper data card? This year, Delaware Coastal Cleanup volunteers at all sites statewide can download DNREC’s Coastal Cleanup app for Android or iPhone.

The app is available from Google Play or the Apple store – just look for the Survey 123 app, choose the Coastal Cleanup from the list, log in with a simple password from your site captain, and follow the directions to enter data into an online version of the old hard-copy data card.

Diamond Clover Award – 2019-2020 Intent Forms DUE November 27, 2019
Delaware 4-H members are eligible to participate in the Diamond Clover Award program. Delaware 4-H adopted the Diamond Clover Award in 2011 from a program used in Maryland and Nebraska. This award will be the highest level of recognition that a Delaware 4-H member can achieve. It is similar to the Boy Scout Eagle Award or the Girl Scout Gold Award. The Diamond Clover Award consists of six levels, each steadily advancing in intensity and achievement over the last. It is intended to take a 4-H member six years to complete. The nice thing about this award is that many 4-H members are already doing the work, so all you need to do is fill out the forms and submit them. For other 4-H members, this award can provide you with a long-term challenge for your 4-H career. Either way, when you have finished the process you have completed an amazing journey that will benefit you forever. To find out more, visit the Diamond Clover site on the State 4-H webpage at: http://extension.udel.edu/4h/about-delaware-4-h/feature-awards/diamond-clover/
