Agent Letter: April 2018

Dear 4-H Families,

Happy Spring!  Although the weather has had different plans, flowers and trees have started to bloom and it has been good to see some sunshine.  A few special and unique celebrations during this month include:  Easter, April Fool’s Day, Children’s Book Day, World Health Day, National Jelly Bean Day, National Volunteer Week, and Administrative Professional’s Day.

Many Sussex 4-H members took part in March Madness, 4-H style.  We are so proud of our Horse Bowl participants from Bridgeville Mustangs, East Coast Horse Club, Country Clovers and Sunset Branch who did an excellent job at the event!  Many members participated in the Woodworking and Photography Judging Contests.  The results are posted in this newsletter.  The county Demonstration Contest went well and members talked about a variety of projects and topics. Twenty-seven teens participated in our annual Jr. Leader Weekend.  The teens learned teambuilding and leadership skills and enjoyed a fun weekend at Cape Henlopen State Park.

The 4-H Legacy Awards, sponsored by National 4-H took place on March 20 in Washington DC.  Four Delaware teens were invited to the event:  Jenna Anger, Hannah O’Hara, Leslie Webb and Christopher Wood.  These members were able to interview attendees, including DE 4-H alumni, Aubrey Plaza, on the green carpet, snap photos and post on social media sites.  The group had a great time and represented Delaware well!

The 4-H Staff would like to welcome Rebecca Arpie, Cypress Heart & Hands member as our work-based learning intern for the spring.  Becca will be helping with office tasks and developing a Healthy Living project/activity as well as working with other Cooperative Extension professionals in the Healthy Living realm.

Thank you to the clubs who submitted a club report this month, please keep them coming!  Be sure to submit your club news to Tammy or myself by the 25th of each month.  Include a fun activity, projects completed, and photos of your club in actions.  We love to see and share what each club is doing!

April will be busy with many events including:  Archery Shoot, Legislative Day and Younger Member Weekend.  Looking forward to seeing you at the next 4-H event!

Yours in 4-H,
Jill Jackson
