Harbor Lights 4-H Club – Elise Goehringer, Reporter
The Harbor Lights 4-H club kicked off the first meeting of the season with a bang! After a joyful reunion we sat down to discuss the important topics of the meeting. Our outstanding former president led the club into conversations about county record books, diamond clover reports, and exciting upcoming 4-H events we don’t want to miss! Our club is pleased to announce that we are going to be involved in many community outreach and service projects this year. These amazing projects give our club opportunities to participate in Delaware coastal cleanup taking place September 17th and adopt a highway. The Harbor lights 4-H club smiles at the chance to give something back to our community.
After the meeting was adjourned our club elected new officers who will boldly lead us into this new season of greatness. We are confident they will teach and encourage our club to reach it’s full potential in doing what we love to do: making the best better. At our next meeting our club will compete in a fun Mac & Cheese Cook Off, we will start our service projects and we will plan future events. Exciting things are happening for our club and you don’t want to miss out!

Sussex 4-H Dairy Club
What is hardware disease? We learned the answer to this and many other questions at our September Dairy Club meeting. This month we focused on the digestive system. After an interesting PowerPoint presentation by Noah Gesford, we broke up into two groups and played Cow Digestion Jeopardy. Although they were neck and neck for a while, the final score was: Sparkling Guerillas 500, Elephants -60!
This year we will be learning about topics such as embryo transfer, technology in dairy farming, breeding and artificial insemination, and metabolic diseases. We also discussed possible field trips to the University of Delaware dairy farm for a tour and cow anatomy lesson along with a potential trip to a cow sale sponsored by Delaware Valley University.
If you are interested in learning about dairy science please email the club leader at sc4hdairyclub@gmail.com and plan to join us at our next meeting on Wednesday October 19, 6:30 pm @ the REC. Please visit:http://sc4hdairyclub.blogspot.com/
