National 4-H Conference 2016
The 2016 National 4-H Conference will take place April 9-14 at the National 4-H Conference Center in Chevy Chase, MD.  This event is sponsored by the Delaware 4-H Foundation.  Applications from teens that are 10th and 11th graders will be accepted until December 1.  The application is attached and can be found at the State 4-H web site http://extension.udel.edu/4h/projects-activities-for-members/topic-citizenship/national-4-h-conference/

East Coast Riding Club Updates

The East Coast 4-H club and 4 Hoofbeats 4-H club joined to host a barn tour and pumpkin paint night at Annett Farms on October 7, 2015.  Members enjoyed seeing 17 horses and ponies stabled at the farm, learning about different breeds and colors.  Club members displayed their animals in the show ring and in the barn area.  Then everyone was invited to paint a pumpkin to take home or enter in the county pumpkin contest.

Many thanks to Annett Farms and Elrita Annett for being our host for the evening!  The next East Coast 4-H meeting will be on Thursday, November 19 at the Carvel Center at 7:00p.m.  All are welcome to attend!  Plans will be made for the Breyer Paint night and upcoming Horse Bowl.

 

Diamond Clover Award – Intent Forms DUE November 25

Delaware 4-H members are eligible to participate in the Diamond Clover Award program. Delaware 4-Hadopted the Diamond Clover Award in 2011 from a program used in Maryland and Nebraska. This award will be the highest level of recognition that a Delaware 4-H member can achieve. It is similar to the Boy Scout Eagle Award or the Girl Scout Gold Award. The Diamond Clover Award consists of six levels, each steadily advancing in intensity and achievement over the last. It is intended to take a 4-H member six years to complete. The nice thing about this award is that many 4-H members are already doing the work, so all you need to do is fill out the forms and submit them. For other 4-H members, this award can provide you with a long-term challenge for your 4-H career. Either way, when you have finished the process you have completed an amazing journey that will benefit you forever. And a Diamond Clover Award will look pretty good on your college application too!

If you plan to participate in this award program for the 2014-15 4-H year, Level Intent Forms must be submitted by November 25.

 ** All 4-H Members are encouraged to re-enroll with 4-H Online by December 23, 2015.  All 4-H members must enroll by March 1, 2016 to be eligible to participate in any summer statewide events such as State Camp and State Fair **

Sussex 4-H is partnering with Delmarvalous Quilters
We have finalized three separate dates for 4-H members to make a 10 minute holiday runner.  Examples of this type of runner are attached.  All workshops will be held in the meeting room of the REC:  16686 County Seat Rd. Georgetown, DE

Dates for the workshops are as follows (please choose one):
Wednesday, November 18:  6-9 pm
Saturday, November 21:  9am-Noon
Sunday, November 22:  2-5pm

Sussex 4-H has funds to provide all of the fabric, interfacing, etc. for this workshop.  If you have a sewing machine, please bring it with you to the workshop.  4-H and quilters have a few machines available, but not enough for everyone.

• Name of members attending
• Date of workshop you will attend
• If you will bring your own sewing machine or not.

• Prudential Spirit of Community Award  ~ Deadline 11/3/15

• National 4-H Council’s 4-H Youth in Action (YIA) Award ~
  Deadline 11/30/15 This award honors four 4-H’ers who have gained critical life skills through their 4-H experience and have utilized those skills to overcome a challenge, or challenges, they have faced. Each of the honorees are outstanding 4-H’ers who epitomize 4-H youth empowerment and leadership.  Applicants should be a 4-H member or recent alumni within the United States, ages 16-21. Please read the guidelines before submitting your application.
• National Wild Turkey Federation’s (NWTF) Academic Scholarship Information & Application ~ Deadline 12/15/15
  NWTF SPECIAL APPLICATION INSTRUCTION FOR DELAWARE 4-HERS !!!
  There will be a $500 scholarship for each of the three counties in Delaware; and one person will be selected to receive the state/national $1000 scholarship, for a total of four scholarships for the state of Delaware.
