Club News – June/July 2015

stateline 4-H clubThe April Stateline 4-H club meeting was called to order at 7:09, the pledges were led by Brock and Cailee. The secretary report because she wasn’t there, and the treasure reported $578.69. In old business Cline Broussard attended the county judging contest. Harmony Broussard attended to the Food Smart Families. But of course everyone loved the family dinner. In new business three people want to attend the younger member weekend, some showed interest in the legislative day 2015 the Archery Shoots, and Sussex 4-H Demonstration. We also talked about the application to National 4-H Congress. The meeting was adjourned at 7:40, it was second by Courtney, Emmaly, Zane, and Cline.

Harbor Lights – Destiny Carmona, Reporter
HarborLightsThe Harbor Lights met on May 11th, 2015 at Lewis Church of Christ. Mr. Rolando (Marissa’s grandfather) and Ben Ockels led the pledges. Our activity was our last rehearsal for our play Effigy and the Outhouse. Last Friday was the play and it went well. Secretary and treasurer gave their report. Under announcements we had Judging sheets from Wildlife and Clothing and Textile Showcase. In Wildlife Ben Ockles 1st in the test and in senior Collin Cunningham 3rd. In Clothing and Textile tests Senior Alieen Goehringer 4th, Elise Goehringer 3rd. Junior Category Diamond Carmona 2nd, and Marissa Timmons 3rd. Great job guys! In new business we discussed about refreshments for Effigy and the Outhouse and who was brining what. Also what we are going to do at our last meeting. We will be having a pool party/4-H meet. Hopefully I will have photos for you guys to see. I can’t believe 4-H is almost over for this year!

Seaford Blue Jays – Alyssa Thawley, Reporter
4h seaford blue jaysThis month, the Seaford Blue Jays experienced a lot of fun activities! First, for this months meeting, we all gathered at the Sweet Serenity Chocolate Shop to learn about what happens behind the counter. Everyone learned about how they made their chocolate and where the chocolate takes them! They demonstrated how they used the converter belt to make chocolate covered pretzels, rice krispies, lollipops, and more! We then hosted our April meeting at the chocolate shop. Shannon Bradley and Alyssa Thawley talked to us about the Junior Leader weekend, they both had a blast! Also, on Friday April 17th, the Seaford Blue Jays hosted a Paint Nite at Mt. Olivet Church, everyone painted a beach scene and we had a great overall turnout, making over $200 dollars!

Hollymount – Katie Kuhlman, Reporter
HollymountOur meeting was held on May 14, 2015.  The pledges were recited.  Our old business consists of younger member weekend.  All who attended had a wonderful time and can’t wait until next year.  We talked about the upcoming camps this summer.  We had a few participants attend the demonstration contest and had fun.  Holly talked about the tours at Legislative Day. For new business we discussed the Sussex County 4-H show on May 30th.  Also the upcoming fair activities.  Looking forward to all the excitement that goes along with the fair.  The next meeting is going to be held June 4th.  Have a great month.

Bridgeville Mustangs – Jenna Anger, Reporter
Bridgeville Mustangs 4-H LogoOn May 21, the Bridgeville Mustangs gathered for their meeting.  Avery, Mallory, & Rachel began the meeting by singing “Crumbling My Bacon”….which is a club favorite.  Austin J. and Wesley led the club in pledges.  Our younger members reported on YMW.  Yasmin told about how much fun they had and everyone loved the Wizard of Oz theme.  Congrats to Alexia and Paige T. for placing 2nd & 3rd in the county Horse Judging Contest.  They will be advancing to the state.    Keeping on the subject of horse, congrats to Paige T. and Jenna for earning a blue ribbon in the county Demonstration Contest and will advance to the state contest.  Their title was Jenna & Paige’s Guide to Great Grooming.  Also, at the meeting they did their demonstration for the club, to encourage others to take advantage of the makeup demo day at the county. GOOD LUCK at the DE State Fair Alexia, Paige & Jenna!!!  Ryan reported on Legislative Day, the Mustangs had a great turn out and learned a lot of interesting information.   Meredith & Jenna volunteered at the Hopkins Farm Tours.  Jenna brought her baby bunnies and led the children in the animal barn.  They had a blast.  Katie reported on the county Archery Contest and received a blue ribbon!!  Way to go!!   Mrs. Heather led the Cloverbuds in a creative, recycled bird house made out of a milk jug.  They had so much fun.

The Outdoor Adventures group took part in the Trap Pond bike ride.  Horticulture group planted topiaries and propagated African Violets.   Archery has been practicing and hitting bull-eyes.   The Horse group has a tour scheduled on June 7th to the Equine Rescue Center.  Poultry and Consumer Ed. have meetings planned.

Bridgeville Mustangs will be at the Kiwanis BBQ on May 31.  Stop by for some awesome chicken and yummy baked goods. Have a great summer!  See you at State Camp and the Delaware State Fair!

Dublin Hill – Matison Smith, Reporter
Dublin Hill 4-HThe meeting started quickly with Matison and Taylor leading the pledges. Old business was reviewed and new business was talked about. One question that got everyone talking was who is going to camp? Almost every hand went up. Volunteers signed up for the horse show. The meeting was then ended and after snacks we all planted flower and herb gardens for the fair.
