March 2014 – Agent Letter

NOTE FROM THE AGENT

Dear 4-H Family,

March sure came in like a lion! The recent winter storm has blanketed our region with more snow. I know many will agree with me that they are ready for spring and warmer temperatures. Daylight savings time begins on Sunday, March 9. Don’t forget to turn your clocks ahead one hour!

The 4-H World is gearing up with many activities and events. This past weekend, many 4-Hers and their families participated in the Favorite Foods Contest along with Foods & Nutrition Judging, Crafts, and much more! The Photography and Wood Science Judging Contests have been rescheduled for Thursday, March 6, from 4:00-8:00 pm. Many 4-H members will be busy on Saturday, March 8, at the Horse Bowl, helping at a bake table at the Tractor Pull in Harrington, or participating in a Tractor School for teens. Sunday, March 9, is the first Archery Shoot for the spring. Be sure to sign up with Tammy to participate in this event. Other upcoming events include: State Record Book Training, Jr. Leader Weekend, and Livestock Skill-a-Thon Training.

Congratulations to Holly Anderson and Shannon Bradley who will represent Sussex 4-H at National 4-H Conference April 5-10, 2014. We also congratulate our Sussex Salute to Excellence Winners. Sharon Anderson, Hollymount Club Leader, received the Outstanding Lifetime Achievement Award. Clyde Mellin, Sussex Wood Science Leader, received the Volunteer of the Year Award. Clyde has also been recognized as the Northeast Regional Volunteer of the Year. Hats off to these wonderful youth and adult leaders!

A Friendly Reminder – Please be sure to submit your club news to Tammy or myself by the 25th of each month. Include a fun activity, projects completed, and photos of your club in actions.  We love to see and share what each club is doing!

Looking forward to seeing you at the next 4-H event!

Yours in 4-H,
Jill Jackson
