 FREE Sheep and Goat Marketing Webinars

The University of Maryland, the University of Maine and Ohio State University are cooperating to hold a series of webinars on the ethnic marketing of lamb and mutton. The webinars are being supported by the American Sheep Industry Associations Let’s Grow with TwoPlus program. The series will also be applicable to goat producers, as the marketing of sheep and goats is similar.

The webinars will be held on consecutive Tuesday evenings (7 p.m. EST) on November 19, November 26, December 3, and December 10. Each webinar will last for approximately 1 hour. An additional 30 minutes will be allowed for questions. Interaction will be via a chat box. Participants will be expected to actively participate through practical home assignments and activities.

The webinars are free, but pre-registration is required.

Delaware Equine Council Scholarship- $1000

Eligibillity:

• Must be a U.S. citizen and a Delaware resident or Delaware Equine Council member. ($10.00 to become an individual member)

• Must be enrolled and in good standing in an agriculture, equine, veterinary or vet tech program in the United States.

• Must submit a typewritten 250-word essay :

“How I plan to use this course of study to further the equine or agriculture industry.”

• Must complete a typed application and include a transcript of a minimum of one full semester’s grades from an accredited college or university.

All awards are given without discrimination as to race, sex, or creed.

2014 Delaware 4-H Horse of the Year

The Delaware 4-H Horse Advisory Committee in conjunction with Peter Stone of Stone Model Horses is pleased to offer the Delaware 4-H Horse of the Year contest. The contest is open to all traditional age 4-H members and you don’t necessarily have to own your own horse to participate. The winner receives a customs painted model of their special horse. 4-H Horse Clean and Groom Contest- November 16, 2013

Do you enjoy grooming a horse? Is hanging out in the barn with your friends you favorite past time? On show day does your horse shine above the rest? Why not put those skills to the test! The Friends 4-Horses is hosting a groom and clean contest for interested 4-H members on November 16, 2013 at Apex Arabians, 671 Williamsville Rd., Houston. Participants will compete as part of a team of 3 and will be mudding their competition horse, complete a basic knowledge test and groom their competition horse. Ages 5-19 welcome and there are awards for every age group. Start time is 7:30am and the contest will conclude by noon. Horse Bowl Already??

The Delaware 4-H Horse Advisory Committee has made some additions to the resources list for the 2014 Delaware 4-H Horse Bowl Contest. New in 2014, the National 4-H Council educational resources titled “Horse Science” and “Horses and Horsemanship” will be used to develop horse bowl questions in addition to the resources utilized in the past. Both books are packed full of information and are reasonably priced at $4.50 each.
