Health Rocks – Free Training Workshop – Saturday, November 23
4-H is teaching educators, young adults, 4-H youth, and leaders to deliver the Health Rocks Program to ages 10-15.
If you are interested in teaching a Healthy Living Curriculum, a way to earn cash, develop presentation skills, increase your self-confidence, and improve your leadership skills, join us for Session 1, for new trainers. Then, continue in Session 2 where we will share resources and tools for better teaching experiences. For current trainers, join us in Session 2 for advanced training.
Once you teach 10 lessons to the same group, trainers are paid a stipend of $6.50 per head. Trainers may teach alone, with a partner and split the money, or with an adult such as your parent. 4- H will help you find places to teach.

Diamond Clover Award – Intent Forms DUE Nov. 27th
Delaware 4-H members are eligible to participate in the Diamond Clover Award program. Delaware 4-H adopted the Diamond Clover Award in 2011 from a program used in Maryland and Nebraska. This award will be the highest level of recognition that a Delaware 4-H member can achieve. It is similar to the Boy Scout Eagle Award or the Girl Scout Gold Award. The Diamond Clover Award consists of six levels, each steadily advancing in intensity and achievement over the last. It is intended to take a 4-H member six years to complete. The nice thing about this award is that many 4-H members are already doing the work, so all you need to do is fill out the forms and submit them. For other 4-H members, this award can provide you with a long-term challenge for your 4-H career. Either way, when you have finished the process you have completed an amazing journey that will benefit you forever. And a Diamond Clover Award will look pretty good on your college application too! To find out more, visit the Diamond Clover site on the State 4-H webpage at:

Farm Safety Certification Class set for March
GEORGETOWN, DE — A federal certification class to allow teens ages 14-15 to work on a farm and operate machinery has been scheduled for March 7-9 at the Redden State Forest and Education Center.
This class provides a teen with a basic understanding of a myriad of hazards found on the farm, safe practices and the skills needed to operate safely when working with tractors and equipment.
A written and practical exam is required in this 24-hour course.
Mike Love, the University of Delaware Extension safety agent, will host the event. University of Maryland Extension 4-H agents and personnel from several area agriculture equipment dealerships will assist in the program. The location of the class provides ample opportunity to complete the training and includes facilities to stay overnight. A trip to observe various farm equipment/tractors, both old and new, will be included in the training.
The program is open to all youth who will become 14 by the first of June 2014. **But teens must be 14 years old by the weekend training to complete the practicum (drive the course).**
