Club News: June 2025

Hollymount – Frankie Joella, Reporter
The summer months are rapidly approaching, and that means it is our second to last meeting for this 4-H season! We officially began our May meeting with our pledges, secretary report, and treasurer’s report. Afterward, we discussed our old business. Sign-ups are open to be helpers at the State Fair, including the ability to help clean, set up, or assist judges. You can sign up in the newsletter and Friday updates. On April 13, Hollymount cleaned our stretch of the beach and April 12 was the Statewide Semi Formal. As for new business, May 18 is the Animal Science Day for our club, and it is recommended to RSVP to it. May 18 is also the Final Archery Shoot, and you must register for that. Aside from our old and new business, Dr. Wolfgang led a mindfulness craft where we painted rocks with colors that made us happy or calm. It was great to see what colors everyone chose! To end our meeting and continue the mindfulness, we concluded with our ice cream social. Our last meeting for this 4-H season is June 5, and as always, we’re very excited for our next meeting!

This month started with a glass etching craft that could be entered into the fair. We completed this craft outdoors and then came inside for the meeting. President Juliette called the meeting to order then Macie & Crys did the pledges. Cameron sang the Peanut Butter song and did the Treasurers Report. Lily gave a Health Report and Miss Amy added to the leaders’ report. Juliette and Brooke M. talked about their fun demonstration contests, followed by Mark, Macie, Jeremy, Crys, and Gavin sharing their fun memories from Younger Member Weekend. Jeremy & Mark told us about Skill-A-Thon. Mark, Juliette, & Brooke T. talked about Legislative Day. Juliette and Brooke Messick informed us about the upcoming Quarter Auction to benefit Sussex County 4-H Exchange Trip. Our Annual Kiwanis BBQ will be held June 1, 2025, hope to see you all there. Meeting adjourned and we all enjoyed a snack before helping to clean up. Everyone is looking forward to the DE State Fair.

Sussex 4-H Junior Council – Linda Adams, Reporter
In May, the Sussex Jr. Council was delighted to welcome Mr. Clayton Pauze as our guest speaker. With a great mix of humor, fun facts, and engaging stories, Mr. Pauze brought the Four Forces of Flight to life. To help visualize the concept, he handed out small, easy-to-assemble foam airplanes—and after his presentation, he hosted a lively Q&A session that everyone enjoyed. A big thank you to Sophia Pauze, Janet, and Olivia Shultie for providing delicious snacks for the group!

During our old business discussion, we revisited the 4-H Formal and the Wizard of Oz-themed Younger Member Weekend. Juliette Anger, Cameron Hale, and Linda Adams enthusiastically shared their positive experiences as group leaders during the event. Miss Cheri also took a moment to talk about preparations for the State Fair and this year’s parade floats. Be sure to hop on the float and ride in the parade during your trip to the fair! Our next meeting will be held on June 2nd @7PM.

Seaford Blue Jays – Jayda Riefler, Reporter
The Seaford Blue Jays met on May 14th, at the Seaford Legion. Two new families have visited our club and are joining our group. Caydance, our president brought the meeting to order. Old business was shared. Those attending the spring festival had a great experience. The 4H formal was held in Harrington this year. Those that attended had loads of fun. The food was tasty and the dancing and games were entertaining. The Means went to Chicago and participated in the Life Smarts. They spent 4 days there and one of their favorite memories was the “Giant Bean”.  Members of our club were also at the younger members weekend. The theme was Wizard of Oz. They broke into people groups and there was a really fun dance. The Means went to Legislative Day. They have been several times in the past but they told the club there is always something new to learn and do. The had a great time. Embrey and Caydance also participated in demonstrations and both were invited to share at the Delaware State Fair. This month we are placing flags at the Bridgeville Cemetery for the Memorial Day. Our club members are also meeting at Lofland Park Center to plant flowers in two large flower boxes that our club will water and tend through the fall at the park. Our meeting ended with Senior Recognition of Ivy Genshaw. We make coffee filter flowers and had a wonderful snack. On June 11th we are meeting for the last time before summer break at Lickety Splitz Ice Cream Shop. See everyone at the Fair!!!!!!!!!!
