Lord Baltimore Helping Hands
This month we had so much to do, we had 2 meetings! First, we got together to decorate a tree and wreath for Delaware Hospice’s Festival of Trees. That’s always fun! Then we made 6 Christmas ornaments for our Fair entry. Using old canning jar lids and rings from Miss Kathy, we made a fabric scrap wreath, a wreath with a bell hanging in the center, a Santa belly, a reindeer, a snowman, and a sparkly sequined ornament.
At our 2nd meeting, 2 of our Cloverbuds told us their favorite parts of the Pumpkin Contest. Ruby shared that our club’s window display received 2nd place and so it’s on to the Fair! She also told us about the Jr. Council’s Grinch PJ Party coming up – which everyone agreed sounded wonderful! Then we learned how to make applesauce and the proper way to process the completed jars so we could store them safely until State Fair time. We had to use knives to cut the apples into 8 pieces, and then let them cook in some water while we held our business meeting. Then it was time to use the tomato press and grind the pieces into pulp while the press spit out the stems, seeds and skins. We were able to add cinnamon and sugar to taste and fill our jars before processing them in a boiling water canner. This was not only fun – it was healthy and tasty, too!
While some members were making their applesauce, others were making Christmas Cards for Soldiers. We made 40 cards! Some members also brought items for the Stockings for Soldiers project. We collected toilet articles, food, books, and candy to be packed and sent to service men and women around the world.
We are looking forward to the Card Party for Heroes, the International Food event, Christmas parades, and possibly caroling and ringing bells for the Salvation Army coming up. Our next meeting will be our Christmas Party on Sunday, Dec 15th.

Our November meeting was held on November 7, 2024. With plenty of fun activities on the horizon for the upcoming holiday season, there were many things to discuss at this meeting! As for new business, November 23 marks the date of the International Foods and Talent Show. The following day, November 24, we will be assembling the float for the Rehoboth Christmas Parade on December 2. On December 13, those who are aged 8 to 12 can participate in a grinch-themed pajama party at Carvel. To conclude holiday festivities, the Ice-Skating Party will be held on December 30. In addition to discussing our new business at the meeting, we also learned our skit for the talent show. To go along with the 4-H spirit, we worked on our project books for community service and our Delaware record books. Our Cloverbuds also made a frame with the 4-H pledge on it. With so much holiday cheer in the air, we are all very excited for our December meeting!
Wild Clovers Report
The members of the Wild Clovers were “fall”-ing in love with nature this month. Nine members attended a nature hike in the Redden State Forest. We walked 4.5 miles! Some members reported seeing different animal tracks. Others looked at the different types of trees that were there, and we all saw some horses on the trail and even got to pet one! At our club meeting, we had a special guest speaker from the Delaware Solid Waste Authority. She taught us all about what can and cannot be recycled in Delaware. We played a game at the end to practice what we learned, and a special visitor showed up… none other than Trash Can Dan. We got the chance to take pictures with him and he even joined in on the game.
Seaford Blue Jays – Jayda Riefler, Reporter
The Seaford Blue Jays met at the American Legion on November 13, 2024. President Caydance brought the meeting to order. She reflected on the Pumpkin Contest and retreat at the Redden Lodge. Those that attended had a great time. Several members mentioned the archery event and enjoyed how much they enjoyed it. Our club met this month at the Dover Air force Base for a tour of the museum. We discussed the International Foods and Talent Show coming up. We also voted to ride as a club in the Seaford Christmas Parade. Chase and Grayson are providing the trailer. We are waiting to hear back from the Good Ole Boys for the possibility to shop for a family for Christmas. We have done this before and it is very rewarding. The Shultie’s then did a photography clinic with our club. Our next meeting is being held on December 18, and we will exchange Secret Santa gifts and celebrate together with goodies that our club families contribute. We hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Our meeting this month was on 11/12/24. While the older 4-H members had a business meeting, the cloverbuds did a fun public speaking activity. Since our last meeting in October, some members have participated in other 4-H activities. These included archery sessions, links to leadership, and the DMV Trunk or Treat. We also participated in our yearly fundraiser, a bowl-a-thon at the Millsboro Bowling Lanes. After the business meeting, the older members had the chance to learn more about public speaking thanks to a presentation from our leaders. Both groups came together at the end so we could have a snack. We were surprised with ice cream from the members of Carey’s Church.
Our club is participating in some Christmas fun and important community service projects. One of these activities includes a Grinch-themed float for several parades. Our float will include Whoville, Cindy Lou Who, the Grinch, and Max. Who knew working with the Grinch could be so much fun?
The holiday season can be an exciting time for 4-H. We hope everyone has a good time during the holidays.
