Sussex 4-H Jr. Council – Lillie Bradley, Reporter
On Monday, March 4th, the Sussex County Jr. Council met for their monthly meeting. 16 Members attended the meeting. Members discussed their experiences on activities throughout the meeting such as: State Teen Conference, the Favorite Foods Contest, and the Spaghetti Dinner. After the meeting, members enjoyed snacks and playing a fun game of bingo.

Seaford Blue Jays – Jayda Genshaw, Reporter
The Seaford Blue Jays met at the Seaford Legion on March 13, 2024. Janet Shultie brought the meeting to order and following the pledges; the Means led the club in a repeat after me song. After the treasurer’s and secretary’s reports were given the Mean’s talked to the club about the Junior council meeting and the upcoming semi-formal. Members are allowed to bring a guest to the event. During old business, Janet encouraged members who had attended the Favorite Foods and Judging Contest to share their experiences. Several participated in the foods portion and Janet and Caydance both were first place winners. The Shultie’s all scored well in the photography/drawing contest. Janet mentioned changes to the zoo trip the club is taking in the spring. The new date is June 8th. Janet reminded all members to register for their State Fair entries April 1 to June 1. Reminders for Younger Members Weekend, Fair Fest, Demonstrations, and Legislative Day were all mentioned. The meeting ended with the Rolph family hosting craft and snack. We painted rocks that were transformed into bunnies or something left to our imagination. It was so much fun. Happy St Patrick’s Day everyone!!!!!

Bridgeville Mustangs – Reid Bradley, Reporter
On March 7, 2024, the Bridgeville Mustangs held their meeting at Union Church in Bridgeville. Many topics were discussed during the meeting. Old Business included the Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser, Jr. Leader Weekend, Horse Bowl, and the Favorite Foods Contest and Foods Judging. Upcoming events consisted of Fair Fest, Demonstration Contest, Litter Barrell Contest, Younger Member Weekend Registration, State Fair Entries Opening, and the 4-H Formal.

After the business meeting was adjourned, member Lily Vanvorst led the club in an exercise activity. After getting exercised, member Cameron Hale led the club in a Healthy Habit activity to see who could name the healthiest habits. We took a break from the activities and had a snack.  Finally, we heard from President Carter Bradley who talked about the importance of the demonstration contest and why not to be nervous about giving one. Then members each got a partner and a topic to demonstrate to the club for one-minute speed demos.  Members then helped clean up the meeting room for the church.

Our next meeting will be April 11, 2024 at the Union Church in Bridgeville.

Hollymount – Francesca Joella, Reporter
We started off our March meeting by doing our pledges and listening to the treasurer’s report. After we finished those, we officially started the meeting by hearing our old business. The spaghetti dinner was March 2nd. Hollymount’s basket went for $310 and $8,400 was raised for Sussex 4-H! As of March 1st, registration for State Camp and Environmental Camp has opened. As exciting as our old business is, our new business is even more exciting. Archery in the county has started back up! State Fair entries also will open on April 1st. Congratulations to our Favorite Foods winners as well!  We also worked through the Photography Judging kit to let our members practice for the contest.  We also had a great Craft Day and made a wreath and beaded craft. After the March meeting, we are all very excited for our April meeting on April 11th!

Cypress Heart and Hands
Members in the Cypress Heart and Hands 4-H club had a wonderful month. At our March meeting, members crafted their own mini canvases using clover stickers and bingo dobbers. They stuck the clovers to the canvas and used the dobbers to make dots around the clovers. Once the stickers are removed, a clover outline is left behind in its place. Everyone’s canvases were all unique and would make an excellent decoration to any room. For snack, the members constructed their own popcorn cups and enjoyed some nice fruit to go along with it. Following all this excitement, the members learned a new song to add to their song book. We all got into a circle and sang “Every Little Cell”. I think they all enjoyed this song and how silly they could be while singing it.

Wild Clovers Outdoor Club
The Wild Clovers members had a motivating March meeting. This month’s theme was gardening and tips and tricks on planning and caring for it. Members learned how to choose what type of garden they wanted and how to plan out where they want it to be located. They also learned how to read plant tags and seed packets to make sure they meet the needs of their plants that they want in their own garden. During the meeting, members got to plant two of their own vegetables to take home and grow. They got to choose between cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplant, yellow squash, and zucchini. After this, they made their own butterfly snack bag with popcorn and grapes. On their way out, members got to take home supplies to make their own pinecone bird feeder at home.
