Club News: March 2024

Hollymount – Francesca Joella, Reporter
To start off our February meeting, everyone who is participating in the Favorite Foods contest had a chance to set up their display they will be using for the actual contest. Every display looked beautiful and was perfectly themed! After setting up, contestants participated in a mock interview that involved some of the questions they will get asked at the real contest, so it was fantastic practice. Afterward, we got to the fun part: everyone, including those not participating in the contest, got to go around and sample all the wonderful dishes! Everything was delicious. We got to enjoy the amazing food while we
had our business meeting. It was also wonderful to see so many new faces at this meeting! All in all, it was definitely a memorable meeting, which makes us all look forward to our March meeting!

Bridgeville Mustangs – Reid Bradley, Reporter
On February 8th, 2024, the Bridgeville Mustangs met at Union Church. Our Cloverbuds met before the meeting and made a heart photo frame craft for Valentine’s Day. Many topics were discussed during the business meeting. Old business included the State 4-H Ice Skating Party, the Public Speaking Contest, Winter Fun Day, and the STEAM Event. Upcoming events include State Teen Conference, Favorite Foods and Graphic Arts Contest, Spaghetti Diner, Horse Bowl, Fair Fest, Demonstration Contest, and Jr Leader Weekend. Also, Vice President, Cole Carpenter, spoke about the upcoming 4-H Formal on April 13th.

At the Public Speaking Contest, many members spoke and received ribbons, and other members, Carter Bradley and Juliette Anger, received a trophy for winning their age group. Then, at Winter Fun Day, many members had lots of fun creating crafts and doing fun activities. Also, at the State 4-H Ice Skating Party, 4-H members from all over the state had lots of fun skating and spending time with friends.

After the meeting, members enjoyed a delicious snack and listened to Treasurer, Juliette Anger, give her speech which won the Junior section of the county contest. Our next meeting will be on March 7th, 2024, at Union Church.

Cypress Heart and Hands
The members of Cypress Heart and Hands have been spreading love and kindness throughout the month of February. Members turned in their monthly tray favors of heart-holding teddy bears to be passed out at the nursing home. At our monthly club meeting, many members brought snacks including apple slices, cookies, and even a build your own hot chocolate bar. It was so fun watching everyone make their own creations! For our meeting activity, one of our members brought supplies for everyone to create their own Valentine bag. There were stickers, pompoms, and even pipe cleaners to utilize. Members got very creative and wrote funny valentine puns, while others transformed their bag into love monsters using the other supplies. Overall, they had a blast. Our community service this month was creating dog and cat toys for the Delaware Humane Association. We created 43 dog toys using fleece and tennis balls, and 24 cat toys using scrap fleece pieces and small hair ties. Members got the chance to learn how to braid and took to this skill very fast! They used their creativity and found new, fun ways to make the different toys. We can’t wait to see what March has in store for us!

Wild Clovers
The Wild Clovers utilized February to start part one of their pollinator series. They talked about butterflies, beetles, and moths. Members in attendance got the opportunity to learn fun facts about each of these pollinators and how to attract more of them to their yards. Along with this, everyone got the chance to create their very own heart shaped seed bombs! Mixing air-dry clay, a little soil, and a variety of seeds, we got to shape and mold our seed dough and cut it out using cookie cutters. They turned out so cute and we can’t wait to throw them into the garden! The Wild Clovers also had the chance to have a booth at the Favorite Foods Contest. We got to spread our knowledge of pollination through a pollination simulation which we think 4-h’ers from the county really enjoyed. Attendees also got to create their very own fluttering butterfly. Everyone did such a nice job being creative and making their butterfly unique.
