Club News: November 2023

Hollymount – Francesca Joella, Reporter
To kick off our October meeting, we sung our favorite songs. Afterward, we started our meeting to discuss old and new business, as well as the treasurer report. As for old business, there is a window display themed to I <3 4-H at the Lewes Library! Re-enrollment is also still open. There was plenty of new business to discuss. On October 7th, there will be a photo day and beach cleanup at the Cape Henlopen Fishing Pier at 4pm. Then, on October 22nd, our traditional Pumpkin Contest will be held. The pumpkin contest is always a fall favorite! We are all very excited for our next meeting on November 9!

The Haunted Trail committee met after and discussed ideas and roles.

Seaford Blue Jays – Jayda Genshaw, Reporter
The Seaford Blue Jay Club met on October 11, 2023, at the Seaford Legion.  President Janet brought our meeting to order.  Then our new officers were installed.  Caydance and Embrey lead the club in the “Beaver Song”. Our club leader, Ms. Garan, handed back all the club and project books.  Caydance got the Head Spirit Award at the Achievement Ceremony. We are so proud of her! The club decided we would like to visit the Cape May Zoo in the spring. Our club talked about the upcoming Pumpkin Contest and some of the members who attended in the past said how much fun it was.  We also found out that we got 3rd place on our Window Display. Caydance and Embrey hosted the meeting, and we had a snack along with making a spider web from lace and an embroidery frame. Our next meeting will be held on November 8 at the Seaford Legion, hosted by the Genshaw family.

Cypress Heart and Hands
Members of Cypress Heart and Hands had a fun monthly meeting. Everyone received their song page of “Tarzan of the Apes”, and we went over how the song goes and the movements that accompany it. SJ, Harley, and Charlee led our activity which was making our own paper bag hand puppets. Everyone was very creative; some made ghosts, others made pumpkin people, even one person made a snake. Our snack was apple teeth. Everyone received two slices of apple, peanut butter and mini marshmallows and assembled them into smiles. Our community service this month is assembling chemo bags and constructing poppy flowers for veteran’s day.

Wild Clovers Outdoor Club
The Wild Clover Adventurers had a tactful tutorial on knot typing at this month’s meeting. Everyone received two different colored pieces of rope and together, we all learned how to tie the overhand knot, the round turn and two half hitches knot, the clove hitch knot, the bowline knot, and the square knot. We created a small handbook for members to take and practice at home. At the end of the meeting, we made paracord bracelets.

Bridgeville Mustangs – Reid Bradley, Reporter
On October 12, the Bridgeville Mustangs held their meeting at Union Church. Members wore purple to show their support of the Delaware Goes Purple campaign to Stand Up Against Substance Abuse. Many topics were discussed. Some of our upcoming club events are Apple Scrapple, the Achievement Event, and Links to Leadership. This year during Apple Scrapple, the Mustangs will be doing a soda booth to raise money for the club and to donate to the Delaware 4-H Foundation. During the Achievement Event, many members received awards.  Project Book pins, judging, demonstrations and public speaking awards were presented.  Numerous Mustangs were recognized for attending National 4-H events like Congress, Conference, and other summits.  Past President, Kyle Kerr, received the Ida Layton Award while Club Leader Gina anger got the adult Spirit Award from the county.  Past member, Austin Quackenbush, also earned the member Spirit Award.  Wesley DeFord was also inducted into the Sussex County 4-H Order of the Links.  Club President, Carter Bradley, who just finished his Diamond Clover project, was recognized. Carter’s project was named Carter’s Care Kits. In his project, he would be collecting donations for 4-H clubs and members to buy hygiene products to donate to homeless shelters. Congratulations to Carter for completing his Diamond Clover Project and all other members for receiving numerous awards. After the meeting was adjourned members enjoyed gravestone pudding cups made by the Cloverbuds. At the end for a craft, members made pumpkins by putting pipe cleaners on orange cups to donate to homeless shelters. The next meeting will be November 9 at 6:30 pm at Union Church.

Lord Baltimore – Cassidy White Reporter
Lord Baltimore Helping Hands held their monthly meeting on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at the Millville Fire Hall. As members arrived, they turned in the tray favors for this month that they completed since the last meeting. The meeting started with the Pledge of Allegiance and the 4-H pledge. Then we discussed old business such as our window display winning second place that will go to the State Fair, as well as new business like Dagsboro night out, the pumpkin contest, and favorite foods. Next we did an activity to get to know each other by tossing a ball of yarn while holding onto a piece to create a web while a series of questions was asked. We then sat back down and made our craft which was creating tealight holders out of Oui yogurt jars and decorating them with paper to make them look like Jack-O-Lanterns. Finally, we finished our meeting by having an assortment of healthy snacks and water and handing out the November tray favors to be completed by our next meeting.

Dagsboro Night Out was held at Dagsboro Fire Hall on Tuesday, October 10th. Here, we had a booth to tell people about 4-H through wheels they could spin and depending on what they landed on they would be asked a question to learn a new fact about 4-H. All in all, it was a successful and fun night.
