Club News: February 2022

Harbor Lights 4H Club – Abigail Cunningham, Reporter
The Harbor Lights 4-H club has had 4 successful meetings now. Our November meeting met on November 18, 2021. During this meeting, we did our activity which was soccer hot potato. After that we filled stockings for foster teens for another one of our service projects. Then our meeting ended with a healthy snack. At our December meeting, on the 9th, we had a fun Christmas party! We had a short meeting. After that, we each shared about one person we interviewed who had served in some way. Some of the people’s stories that I found interesting were the stories of a missionary in Peru and a man who did Prison ministries. Then we played minute to win it games and we did our gift exchange. We ended with lots of different desserts. Both meetings were delightful!

On December 5, 2021 members from the Country Clovers, Bridgeville Mustangs, and Dublin Hill 4-H clubs met up and studied Hippology. In total 12 members came, and we studied things like parts of the horse, parts of a saddle and bridle, and the conformation of a horse. It was a great time, and everybody made sure to practice social distancing.

At this month’s 4-H Meeting we started off with the business. Our President, Quinton, told us what was coming up and we did the pledges. Afterwards we did three different rotations. We made trail mix, bags with necessities for people at the homeless shelter, and we listened to a demonstration lead by two of our group members about their chickens that they hatched. For the last activity we did it in our table groups. We started off with one clue and a packet. Our groups had to read, use morse code, and also figure out a bunch of different puzzles. In the end all of the groups finished all of the puzzles and our meeting came to a close.

Seaford Blue Jays – Olivia Shultie, Reporter
December was a busy month for the Blue Jays. We participated in the Seaford Christmas Parade on December 4th with a Rudolph themed float. Our Club won a trophy in the non-profit category. Our club went shopping on December 5th for a needy family of six. We were able to do this with a grant from the Good Ole Boys Foundation.  We had a brief meeting and exchanged secret Santa gifts after shopping together. Our members and their families made cakes, brownies, and cookies to be donated to the Feed Our Troops event at the Dover Air Force Base.

The January Club Meeting was held at the Seaford American Legion on January 12th. The club health advisors, Embrey and Paloma, led us in playing an exercise game. Jayda Genshaw won the game. Some of our Junior Leaders will be helping with Winter Fun Day. We talked about upcoming events including Public Speaking and the Favorite Foods Contest.  After the meeting Janet led the club in making a paper butterfly craft.

We participated in making a stenciled Christmas plate that we can turn in to the State Fair. For our service project, we decorated paper trees and wreaths for Meals on Wheels clients.  Ruby led the group in a healthy physical activity. And we were given a homework assignment for our Dog Project where we mark the different responsibilities we have with our dogs at home.  Our next meeting will be held on January 9, 2022.

The Lord Baltimore Helping Hands 4-H club held its monthly meeting on January 9, 2022. The meeting started with the pledges and new business of the upcoming events we could participate in. Next, was a team-building activity where each person was given a physical disability and we then had to try to build a shelter together while being able to include everyone in the process. Then, we worked on our club’s dog project by learning about a dog’s body language and what signals they show to tell if it is safe to go near them. We then moved on to making our crafts for Meals on Wheels, which were decorated winter hats. Following this, we did a quick physical activity by doing different stretches. Afterward, we made denim dog toys made of recycled jeans, which made them both durable and biodegradable. Finally, we ended our meeting by everyone starting to make a no-sew fleece blanket for the ASPCA(American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) that we would finish at home and meet back up again to go to the ASPCA in Georgetown at a later date. This sums up the Lord Baltimore Helping Hands January meeting.
