Club Spotlight: Heavenly Hooves (New Castle County)

Heavenly Hooves is a New Castle County 4-H club for kids that love animals. We currently have 24 members and 7 Cloverbuds. We meet on the 2nd Saturday of each month, either at Gray Fox Farm or at the Delaware City Library.

Our focus is on Horse, Sheep and Poultry project areas, but our kids also participate in many other projects like Animal Care, Dairy, Gardening, Archery, Photography, and Sewing. Each month at our meeting, we cover club business, complete an animal science activity, and make a fun craft. This year we have had club activities on the care and feeding of horses, raising sheep, keeping geese, egg judging, beekeeping, and pond ecosystems.

A big day for our club happens every April when we meet at Gray Fox Farm for Sheep Shearing Day. Our kids help with gathering sheep for shearing, hoof trimming, vaccinations, and any other care the sheep need.

We participate in events at the county and state level like Horse Judging, Horse Bowl, Hippology, Avian Bowl, and Demonstrations. Each year, our kids show sheep at the state fair, compete in judging contests, and enter lots of exhibits.

We are all glad to be meeting in person again and are enjoying our time outdoors on Gray Fox Farm. For more information about Heavenly Hooves, contact Angela Brown at abrown1831@aol.com.
