Club News: December 2021

Hollymount – Gianna Joella, Reporter
We began our November meeting with our usual session of singing and dancing. Once that concluded, we began our business meeting. We talked about old business, like the pumpkin contest, and new business, like our float in the Rehoboth Christmas parade. We also got to hear about our fellow members’ entries in the pumpkin contest- there were so many creative projects! Next, we worked on a section of our project books. After that, we were given a craft to do. Together we used sandpaper, twine, and glass cups to make beautiful candleholders! Finally, our members donated many items, and we each took turns filling stockings with items to send to soldiers. It felt good to be able to give back to them, and our members always have fun filling up their stockings. This meeting was filled with many fun activities!

Sunset Branch – Talia Moutzalias, Reporter
The Sunset Branch 4-H Club met on Sunday, November 14 at the Dagsboro Fire Hall.  We began the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance, 4-H Pledge and the business meeting.  Next, we went to different stations; the first station was to practice for the public speaking contest, the second station was where we made thank you cards for heroes which was organized by Demetreus, our Community Service Chairperson, the third station was where we put together a 4-H notebook to help us stay organized throughout the year.  Our next meeting will be held on December 12.

Dublin Hill- Logan Jackson, Reporter
The Dublin Hill 4-H Club meeting started at seven o’clock at the Bridgeville firehouse. Ella and Evan led the club in the 4-H and United States pledges. Many club members participated at the Pumpkin Contest and did a great job.  I talked about the club’s community service project, Wreaths Across America, at the Bridgeville cemetery on Dec.18th at 12 o’clock. The club also talked about shopping for a family for Christmas, helping at Bella’s Night of Praise on Nov.28th and having a float in the Bridgeville Christmas Parade on Dec.11th. We also made duct tape can crafts for the fair. Our next meeting will be on Dec. 9.

Seaford Blue Jays – Olivia Shultie, Reporter
Our November meeting was held outdoors at the Genshaw home. The backyard was beautifully decorated with lights and we stayed warm with a bonfire. We welcomed three new members during this meeting. Club President, Seth Genshaw, began the meeting with the pledges. Our health advisors, Embrey and Paloma, lead the club in a fun game using dice that corresponded to a physical activity.

Under old business, we had nine members participate in the pumpkin contest this year. Caydance won in the Foods category and Janet won in the Animal category. We all enjoyed the haunted trail. Several members plan to participate making cards for heroes this month.

Under new business we will be participating in the Seaford Christmas Parade on December 4. We will be making desserts for the military in December. We voted to have our Secret Santa again this year.

President Seth Genshaw is taking bird watching as a project and gave us a handout about birds. After adjourning the meeting, Seth and Ivy Genshaw led our craft of making a wreath from natural items for birds to use. These were so much fun to make! We each selected an artificial bird to put on our wreath.

Lord Baltimore Helping Hands – Cassidy White, Reporter
Lord Baltimore Helping Hands’ last meeting was on November 11, 2021. The meeting began with West leading the American pledge and Wyatt leading the 4-H pledge. Then we welcomed two new members, Wren and West, by introducing ourselves by saying our names and rolling a dice to answer the question on it. Then we discussed old business, with people describing their experiences at the pumpkin contest and a dog workshop. Next was the new business with reminders for the Links for Leadership days and the Stockings for Soldiers items. We also planned to meet again on November 18th to decorate trees for those in need. Next was a demonstration by Ms. Kira on what dogs can and can’t eat, as well as some recipes we could make for our dogs. Afterward, we went to do our physical activity, which was playing charades by tossing a ball with different activities on it to act out. Finally, we did our service project for Meals on Wheels. This month’s craft was making turkeys with clothespins, cloth leaves, paper, and googly eyes. This concluded our club’s November meeting.

For the brief November 18th meeting we decorated two trees; one for Hospice and one for a Women’s and Children Center. We use an assortment of decorations including string beads, toys, and ornaments in a mix of styles. Though it was a quick meeting, we still put forth the effort to make the trees the best they could be and have fun. Overall, these were the activities we did during November at Lord Baltimore Helping Hands.
