Lord Baltimore 4-H Club – Ruby DiSabatino, Reporter
Our meeting was held on April 19th, 2021 in Ms. Kathy’s garage and backyard. We started our meeting with a zoom where we talked to Brielle Carter, VP of the State Teen Council. She just talked to us about different camps each person depending on their age could attend, and she spoke about the State Fair as well. She also talked about more ways we could get involved. She informed us that there’s a state teen council website and social media hashtag that you could post on about why you’re thankful for 4-H and what it has done for you.
In old business, Ruby talked about junior leadership day, which she attended, and she told us all about it. She said it was amazing, and one of the best 4-H events she’s attended. They had several different “classes” about various topics such as job interviews, how not to burn yourself out with zoom, and how to be a good camp counselor. They did activities on those things as well, and they even did a roleplay type of activity where everyone got to be a different type of camper and there were two counselors (Ainsley West and Diamond Carmona) and Ruby was the “wanderer” camper, where she had to keep getting up and walking away. There were other campers such as the conversationalist, the bragger, the singer/dancer, and there were two “star campers” just being good.
In old business, we also talked about demonstrations. Ruby did a demonstration on how the blind get along successfully and independently in our seeing world. She was inspired by a state 4-H event she attended on disabilities awareness.
On to new business, we discussed upcoming camps and sign up dates, younger member day, and State Fair entry sign up. Ms. Kathy also told us to make sure to check our emails for the spring fair flyer.
Using the small cones, a laying rope ladder, the activity dice, jumping obstacles, and a yoga dice, Ruby put together a little timed obstacle course, for our physical activity. All but the jumping obstacles were things our club has been given for our 4th H for 4-H participation. Lastly, we started working on foods and nutrition posters for the spring/county fair. Our next meeting will be held on May 16th, 2021.
