4-H Leader Spotlight: March 2019

Organizational Leader: Melissa Mitchell
Club: Dublin Hill

Melissa Mitchell has been the organizational leader for the Dublin Hill 4-H Club in Sussex County for 17 years. She has also served as both President and Vice President of the Sussex County Leaders Association. She has served on the Fall Overnighter Committee and also chaperones Younger Member Weekend and Junior Leader Weekend.

As a 4-Her, she was a member of the Dublin Hill 4-H club for 10 years and then inducted into the Links. She was active in the sheep, foods, clothing, and health projects. She attended National 4-H Congress in Chicago and National 4-H Conference in Washington DC. She also attended exchange trips to Kalamazoo, Michigan and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

She loves working with the youth and helping them pursue opportunities that they would not have if they were not in 4-H.  Their excitement for learning is contagious and they inspire her to become a better person. She finds that 4-Hers seem to benefit from parents that are also involved since it can be time consuming and require traveling at times.  4-H is a way for families to be together so when her children joined 4-H, she became a leader. She says that the best part of 4-H is the life-long friends that you make and the confidence you develop.
