Sussex County 4-H Spotlight Leader

Organizational Leader: Jacalyn Bradley
Club: Seaford Blue Jays

Mrs. Bradley’s 4-H years began when she was very young. Her mom started Seaford Blue Jays when she was just one. As a 4-Her, her main projects were Food Preservation, Foods, Clothing, and Gardening.   She submitted her state project book for National 4-H Congress in the Food Preservation project and was selected as one of the six National winners in her project.  She also attended National 4-H Conference.

The highlights of her 4-H years were making so many lifelong friends, attending State 4-H camp, participating in exchange trips, and attending National 4-H Congress and Conference.

This will be her 15th year as Organizational leader of the Seaford Blue Jays, and she also serves as the foods leader. On the county level, she has been the secretary of the leader’s association, and has helped with Junior Council.  She has been the chairperson of several events and also helps as a link member.

She never planned to become an organizational leader, however she did not want to see the club dissolve when the previous leader was ready to give up the position.  Although the club is small, all members are very active. She is happy to help 4-Hers gain knowledge and skills in project areas, community service and leadership. Mrs. Bradley finds it very rewarding to see them grow over the years as active members both in the club, county and state and community. Her favorite parts are some of our club activity either projects such as making food for homeless shelter, preparing thanksgiving meals and delivering them to elderly shut-ins.  She loves the opportunity that members have for such a variety county and state events whether project related, STEM or fun activity.

Her advice to a parent or someone interested in being a leader, is to just show up to club meetings and county activities and just do it!  Find an area that interests you, there is certainly a project related to the topic and you can share with other members. As an adult, she has made even more 4-H friends being a parent and leader. There is always something to do and learn.
