Final Pork Quality Assurance Classroom Training June 4th
The final opportunity for PQA/YQCA classroom training to obtain a certification to show a market hog during the 2018 Delaware State Fair is June 4th from 6:30-8:30 pm at the Kent County Extension Office.  To register or for more information, please contact Susan Garey at (302)730-4000 or truehart@udel.edu

Invitational Livestock Judging Contest Friday, June 8th– 6:30 pm
The Kent County 4-H Livestock Advisory Committee along with the NCC 4-H Livestock Show Committee will be hosting an invitational livestock judging contest Friday, June 8th beginning at 6:30 pm in the Kent building on the Delaware State Fairgrounds. Both New Castle and Kent County 4-H will be using this as their county qualifier for livestock judging at the Delaware State Fair.  If you are from another 4-H group or an FFA Chapter you are welcome to come and utilize the classes as a workout.  Official placings will be provided to everyone but you must bring your own judging supplies and provide your own listener for oral reasons if you are from FFA or an outside 4-H group.

Eastern Shore Dairy Judging Training June 27/28th– Registration Required
An Eastern Shore Dairy Judging Workshop is being held at the end of June with Dr. Katharine Knowlton and Jamie Black Owner of Opportunity Holstein’s and Jerseys and Internationally renowned judge.to be held June 27th and the morning of June 28th. This workshop will be led by Dr. Katharine Knowlton, coach of the Virginia Tech Dairy judging team and author of the Dairy Judging 101 tutorials on Youtube. The training will occur on two farms over two days (Jones Family Farm in Massey, MD and Emerson Farms in Middletown, DE) and is for youth of all ages and is free of charge. In this 2 day workshop Thursday will include training and practice judging, and Friday morning will include training and practice giving reasons. Stars and Stripes Livestock Show
The Stars and Stripes Livestock Show will be held on Sunday, June 24th in Moorestown, New Jersey.  Classes are available for exhibitors 21 and under in sheep, dairy goats, poultry and waterfowl, and small animals ranging from rabbits and cavys to lizards and snakes!  Please check their website for entry information and directions. http://www.starsandstripeslivestock.com/  Entries must be postmarked by June 21st.  For questions please contact Robin Bruins at 609-259-2347 or Bruinsjr@optonline.net

Delaware Pork Producers Association Looking for Delaware State Fair Volunteers
The Delaware Pork Producers Association is looking for volunteers to staff their booth and greet visitors to the Delaware Department of Agriculture’s Commodities Building during the Delaware State Fair.  Shifts are available every day of the fair 11-3pm and 3-7pm.  This is a great opportunity to earn community service hours or have an activity for your livestock record book.   Booth volunteers earn a dinner ticket to the Delaware Pork Producers annual dinner.  The Delaware Pork Producers Association has always been a great supporter of youth livestock events and donates all of the showmanship trophies awarded in the Swine Department each year at the Delaware State Fair.  For more information or to sign up, please contact Karen Tigner at (302)632-4250.

53rd State 4-H Horse Show
The 53rd Annual State 4-H Horse Show will be held on Friday, July 27, 2018 in the Quillen Arena during the Delaware State Fair.  All participants must have been enrolled as a 4-H member by March 1.  Horses do not need to be stabled on the fairgrounds and may ship in just for the day.  Horses and ponies need to have proof of a current negative Coggins test as well as proof of vaccination for Equine Influenza and Rhino (EHV) within the last 180 days.  All exhibitors are required to wear an ASTM/SEI approved helmet whenever mounted or driving.  A complete class list is available on the State 4-H Animal Science website   https://cdn.extension.udel.edu/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/24080937/2018-StateHorse-Show-FINAL.pdf

 Delaware Farm Bureau Rate of Gain Contest Forms Due August 17th
All 4-H and FFA Rate of Gain Contest forms are due to the Kent County Extension office postmarked by August 17, 2018.  Complete rules and entry forms are available on the State 4-H Animal Science webpage.
